Now that the patch is out I can show some of my own work, just for an example. This is just something small. The sprites in these pictures arent 'working' ones. They dont have animations at all. Also the sprites are too big, but the pictures just demonstarte what can be done.

Anyway here is a picture which shows a Dornier Do-17 sprite.

This second picture shows a light panzer sprite.

Few tips:

I used GIMP to make the sprites. You can of course use whatever program you like. Though the windows paint doesnt really cut it.

A black and white photo is great starting point for a sprite. I noticed it's a bit difficult to get the palette right if you use color photo as a basis.

A great source for BW photos is in your GFX\Interface\models directory.

This is a link to Stony Road sprite tutorial, made by Sekinoss. I'd say everything in it can be applied to Hoi 2 sprites too, except now there are more unit types ofcourse.

Good job Icer, read my mind. I was just going through all the files looking for the new tags :)

Any idea if the L-# tag is active or are we still limited to a single tech lvl per model?

I've tested some of the aircraft sprites levels. The dornier do sprite is level 2 sprite. :)

There's 5 levels for bombers alone? There's some work to do there if one wants to have all tags and levels done. ;)

Wow, they exceeded my expectations then. Thats a whole lotta potential sprites!
Will be doing work on some myself .... after I play 1.2 for a while :)

Im converting over the original HOI sprites for now just to have some variety, they are only half the size/detail as is possible with HOI2 but work for the moment.

converting HOI1 sprites?

Here's what I did.

Re-installed the original HOI. Went in to the GFX/Map/Unit folder and picked out all the ones I wanted ie tac bombers, strat bombers, transport planes etc and coped them over to the HOI2 folders of the same name (ie the .spr files go in gfx/map/units/ and the .bmp files go in gfx/map/units/bmp/

This gives you the set of C-MIN files (country - minor) you can then change C-MIN to C-GER on the .spr files, or whatever country you are into playing and the sprites will show up for that country. Or if your feeling ambitious just make a copy of all the C-MIN files and make a version for all the majors (ie C-RUS C-ENG etc).

One thing to note is some name changes like divebomber is now CAS.

You can then also hit stony roads graphic/sprite area for HOI and pick out some you like from those and do the same thing to add them into HOI2.

I did this mainly for the planes as I like bombers actualy to look like bombers instead of fighters :)

I cant just make a zip of all the files I pulled from HOI as these are copyrighted materials from a retail game rather than a mod to download. But its easy to do once you figure out what goes where.

They look great. I've used the motorized and mechanized sprites since I was able to use the tags. They are of course a bit smaller, but I'll rather have them than nothing at all. :)
