Why can't humans uplift all the cool earth animals :D

Would be nice to start a Sol game with some pre sentient on a capital world...

Everyone knows humans would uplift all the cat, dogs and bears given the tech and also make catgirls! (dolphins too, to send them to ocean worlds)

This exactly! Stellaris have already too much aliens based on earthlife form or with anthropomorphic stature. We need just more aliens that looks aliens...

PS: Isn't this mammalian already inspired on bear?

I think it was even mentioned by a dev pre-release that these are dogs. And everyone on the meme thread called them dogs when that portrait was shown for the first time.
To me, with the eyes and the nose it looks like a six-eyed and four-nose-holed, bipedal alien dog.

I would love space bears, StarDrive has them (hilarious to meet samurai space bears) and I loved that they were in the slaver wars trilogy and its sequels (good books for sci-fi fans)

Pretty sure thats a bat.

Anyways to respond to OP, when adding in a new species I think its a bad start to say "we want a space bear". It should be more unique and alien than that.

Huh - I'd assumed these guys were based off koalas. Seems that everyone sees them slightly differently.

EDIT: Though Mammalian #11 is even more koala-like...

Definitely a bat, the giant ears, the massive nose and the shape of the skull all point to it. Though I can see wombat too now.

I'm all for bears, cause... bears, in space as Honorbound Warriors no less. But I'd like a healthy mixture of all three craved alien types, weird aliens most, space animals next common and rubber foreheads least of all. And of course there's a spectrum between all three that aliens can fall into: furries and nekos are the spectrum between animals a humans, there's a playground of possibilities between weird aliens and animals, and between weird aliens and rubber foreheads is were you can really invoke the uncanny valley and things are rather strange. Of course there's the spectrum between all three, were we can get anything from cuties to H.R. Giger's best nightmares.

Bears are mammalians. Also it's very hard to think of an alien species that doesn't belong or unlikely to belong in any species categories. All the choices of habitable planets are technically here on Earth. Stellaris is teaching us that this is all in our heads and they are not real, they are merely our imagination! And I think I forgot to take my meds!

Well i'd like to point out to the crowd complaining about "mammalian aliens looking like earth creatures", I understand and see your point, however, we don't have ANY experience or details on truly foreign aliens to base the portraits off instead. We cannot imagine a mammalian alien without basing some of it off of what we already have here on earth. The only true different looking aliens we have are the Reptile and the fungoid to an extent, every other one looks like what we have here on the earth, and honestly that's not a terrible thing imo.

Edit: halfway ninjad by the above post :p

We already have a whole zoo of mammallian aliens looking as if they came right from earth. In all honesty I would like to see more alien looking aliens and less earth species adaptions.

and here i thought that we pretty much only have fennec foxes and nothing else from earth, well humans I guess. I seriously want more races that look "normal", but that's just me. The thing that annoys me the most is all the reptilians look too humanoid and thus just weird. I don't think i've played a single reptilian species portrait yet because of this. :/
