It sure was a great job choosing the monarchs and leaders for all the countries at the start date. But I just don't know how Silesia, the Duchy of Racibórz at that time, got a piast as a duke, even in the later starts. The Piast dynasty has died out in Silesia in 1336, a year later, the dynasty of the Přemyslids continued to rule the duchy until 1521 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duchy_of_Racibórz#Dukes). So in 1444, the Silesian duke shouldn't be some Jan I Piast but Wenceslaus II, Duke of Opava-Ratibor. The final name choice would be up to Paradox if they are going to change the dynast since there are a some different titles and names in different languages (cz. Václav, pol. Wacław, ger. Wenzel).

It's nice to have a common dynasty at least with Mazovia but historically I really would like to see a change in this 'minor mistake'.

Ok, so I have been wrong, or at least only partially right.

Stuff like this is what makes the game great. Occasionally there are errors, and that is basically what the forums exist for.

Congratulations! You've found the one Silesian Duchy that wasn't ruled by a Piast in 1444!

Here are all the Silesian Duchies that were ruled by the Piasts in 1444:

Brzeg: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duchy_of_Brzeg
Cieszyn/Teschen: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duchy_of_Teschen
Głogów: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duchy_of_Głogów
Lignica: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duchy_of_Legnica
Oleśnica/Oels: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duchy_of_Oels
Opole: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duchy_of_Opole
Oświęcim: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duchy_of_Oświęcim
Żagań: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duchy_of_%C5%BBaga%C5%84

For a full overview of all the Piast dukes in Silesia, in all their bewildering variety, see:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duke_of_Silesia
One can scroll down both lists (one each for the Upper and the Lower Silesian duchies) and find all the Piast rulers in 1444.

The rulers of Silesia in game are from the Lignica line, which makes sense in general as Lignica was the not only usually the most powerful of the Silesian duchies, but also longest-lived, lasting all the way to 1675, when the last of the Silesian Piasts, Georg Wilhelm of Lignica and Brzeg, died. The Jan I of Silesia in the game is Jan I of Lubin and Brzeg, who was quite definitely a Piast: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_I_of_Lüben (He ruled only part of the Lignica duchy - the city itself was temporarily occupied by Bohemia at game's start, but Jan was the legitimate heir of the Lignica duchy, and his son would regain it fully in 1455. The game ruler lists are inherited from EU2 and EU3, which started earlier and thus didn't have to deal with the somewhat messy situation in Silesia for the 1444 start).

Damn it, I only thought of it because after talking with some of my relatives they said there weren't any Piasts ruling Silesia at that time, so they were only partially right since the place my family comes from was part of the former Duchy of Ratibor. I somehow didn't realised there were more duchies, thanks for making it clear. Good to see that the Silesian territory at that time will now belong to Silesia in 1444, together with a new third Głogów/Glogau province.
