The correct CSA flag is used in DD, and the much-maligned Naval Jack appears in Victoria. I think it's a simple mistake--or a part of the scenario's alt history--more than PI turning PC.

That's right. At any rate, that flag isn't illegal anywhere, unlike the Third Reich one, which is in Germany and some other European countries.

The inccorrect flags really are annoying, too me they symbolize the destruction of civilization in progress right before your very eyes:)

the flag that is the basis for the one shown for CSA is not the "actual" one and I doubt the "actual" (national) flag(s) would be a pc problem, however the battle flag would be a pc problem (while much less so than the nazi flag)

Can we pre-order it? :D

The Soviet Union's flag is perfectly acceptable, so why's not the Confederate one?

But I'm straying off-topic, so I'll stop there. :eek:o

Well in Germany its just illigal to show that flag. Any game with it gets banned. This can lead to absolutly weird situations- a communist merchandiser is beeing sued for showing the swastika. Well showing it beeing crossed out and in a red cirlce...

So basically i am happy they dropped the flag as otherwise i wouldn't be even be able to ply that game. Yet the german version is even worse- there is no picture of Hitler or Goering and you have a strange pictureless General called "Heimmler". It would not even be illegal to show the pictures in Germany... Well guess Paradox decided to play it safe...

I thought first the timechange is basicly that the Confederates won the civil war in the USA which led to more open trade with Europe.

This together with that Sweden refused to leave Norway made that Sweden was still a demi-great power at the start of WW1.

With a USA which isn't messing in Europe (As it got it's evil southern neighbour) and a Sweden on it's side Germany recieve:
- A quicker conquest of Russia by Swedish troops.
- Control over the baltic and a larger fleet for the Germans to use against the British navy.
- A larger manpower. And as that the Entente never recieve US support this mean a Entente surrender unto the Germans.

Sadly as France is named Bourbon the moment of change has to have happend earlier.

I would like to see a bigger picture on Sweden but it look like Sweden won the GNW.

There is an aspect to game production called "Localization" which refers to producing versions of games for different markets (usually in a different language). There is no reason for US copies of any WWII game to not have the correct German flag. German versions, and any other nations with actual laws against showing it, would not have that flag. Refusing to use the German flag in WWII games is a new phenomena, games used the correct flag for decades until recently. There is just no reason at all to show an incorrect flag other than being too weak and fragile to handle seeing it... how pathetic the human race is becoming:-(

Perhaps it is cheaper to have one worldwide version of the game?

And how Germany passes its laws is really up to them, and I don't think they took into consideration WWII gamers...

Well as i just said, they didnt. There is a german version without pictures of Hitler, Goering and Himmler. Even without Himmler but with "Heimmler". Though i am not particulary keen on seeing them and i dont mind that much, i still think it is a little pathetic.

Though in Sweden (Which is where these gameproducers are located) nazi symbols aren't allowed to be shown in public as they are considered to be supporting violence and hatred towards minorities (Which is illegal).

Something I think is a major reason why they decided to cut off the nazi symbols from the main version.

The end date is 1964 now? That means the world would be in the middle of the space race. Since you plan on releasing this at the end of March, I'm probably a few weeks too late, but is it possible for you to make appropriate events for the great powers (USA, USSR, Germany & Britain) that can fire (significant random element should be there for project duration and outcome) if the required technology has been researched (probably computers and rockets) and the nation is not at war with any of the other two power blocs? It could be a series of multiple choice events (mostly concerning the amount of resources funneled into the program and the speed at which the project should go forward; both would affect safety), and while the program was active, the affected nation would lose a fair amount of off-map IC/resources. Disasters would increase dissent, successful missions would do the opposite and also give some off-map victory points.

The whole space race can probably be simulated quite adequately within the Europa Universalis event system (considering that this is a wargame) and would not need any modification of hard-coded stuff. It would give late game players a little bit more to do other than attacking their ideological enemies through proxy wars. :)

OOH!

Looks really great. fantasy scenarios, yeah give me more. In fact give me anything. I love HOI. In fact it's good for my budget, nothing spent on other games for two years, I will pick up EU III at some point but I'll be happy to see any new HOI stuff, even with all the bitching, each release has made the game better. Thank you Paradox for supporting us like this. Yeah, I'd like a bug free game tailored to my specific wishes, but Paradox seems to be the only company I've met that even comes close to caring about that.

Keep it up!!
