That Japanese flag looks like an archaic flag of one of the Shogunates rather than a Communist one. I'm no Japanese history buff, though. At least, I swear I've seen a red with golden flower Japanese flag. I think that's the flag in EU3.

Think about it. It's the same shapes (circle) and it's yellow on red (see flags of USSR and PRC). Of course I might have it wrong, still. Just saying that it would be plausible.

Of course, I'm not denying it has a Communist colours, but look at this:

That flag, with the red-and-gold colour scheme, is the flag of Japan in EU3. Presumably, it was the royal standard of the Tokugawa shogunate or some such thing. Anyone with more knowledge than me on this subject wan to intervene?

In case anyone's wondering, I know this is orange. It's just the fastest thing I could find.

Never seen it as orange, but as red-yellow as indicated. I am absolutey sure it is Japan. But what does it's acronym stand for?

Acknowledged. :)

But we agree that it's Japan then ? PRRS still suggests "People's Republic" to me

I have no idea. "PR" certainly sounds like People's Republic, but they wouldn't be flying an Imperial banner. I have no idea. Could the "S" stand for "Shogunate?" How about "People's Republican Ryukyu Shogunate?" Who says a Communist King of Ryukyu couldn't pull a William the Bastard off?

Sounds plausible. Would that be A Commu-Fascist arrangement then ? :D

Maybe "People's Republic" is just a misnomer. Like the Nazis were "Socialists" ...

Also these might not be the final acronyms, probably still early Beta.

republic of china is still all small letters as well ;)
EDIT: Dammit, beaten to it ^^

S might indeed stand for Shogunate. But people's republic does not seem fit in that case. would be more of a paternal autocrat type instead of hardcore communists.

Also the Arabian peoples republic sounds not that great. Arabian commies? Gimme a break.

Lets start guessing about alliances:
We got
Democracy: India, China, USA (?), Empire of Russia (might also be fascist/autocrat)
Fascists/Autocrats: Prussia, Confederates, Roma (?), Australasia (?), PRRS (?),
Commies: UK, APR, Libertadores (?), France (?), Indochina (?), PRRS (?)

the ones without (?) i take as a given.
Let's keep the balance in mind. There wont be continents of purely one faction probably, but a good mix.

Bourbon/France is probably monarchist. The Bourbons were kings of France, you know, Louis XIV and all that?

EDIT: On the subject of naming, wouldn't "Indochina" be more correct than "Indo China?"

That's the Emperor's Mon (coat of arms to us Euro types), not belonging to Tokugawa but instead the figurehead
Japanese emperor.

I betcha that Ukraine is also included. Simply for the reason that Russia including Siberia is frickin' huge ... and The Cossacks need to be a viable powerhouse in view of that neighbour ...

Yes, you're right. But then i thought no possible France vs. Germany war, since both would be autocrats and no possible archenemies. In case the 3 major alliances i posted are correct and indeed final.

So then we got:
Democracy: India, China, USA (?), Empire of Russia (might also be fascist/autocrat),
Fascists/Autocrats: Prussia, Confederates, Bourbon, Roma (?), Australasia (?), Cossacks (?)
Commies: UK, APR, PRRS, Libertadores (?), Indochina (?),

I dont like those alliance per se atm. Dont know where to include Persia (most likely autocrat/fascist) and the rest. The autocrat block might just be too big... any suggestions?

Isn't it called "Republic of Persia?" That implies democracy, I think. Do we have any idea of Sweden's situation?

Republic of Persia does indeed imply Democracy, however we would then have 3 big democracies right next to each other. But Persia per se does not usually ring my democracy bell...

Sweden is another thing. I just cannot think of it as Commie, it must either be Democracy or Autocrat.

Where do the screenies say anything about the situation in East Asia? I see neither Japan nor China made it into the 8 major powers...

The developer's diary has 2 piccies, one of them covers persia/horn of africa to china/indonesia/korea and southern parts of siberia. Gen.Schuerman posted both of them earlier in this thread, see the previous page. A nation resembling Nat.China (flag and everything) definitely is in there ... the existence of Japan (PRRS) is deduced, but there's a bright yellow blob in one of the screenies to the east of china
