Instead of this strange missions I think you should have goals, like (Sweden): Conquer all land around The Baltic Sea, (Incas): Don't loose any province to a european country in 50 years, (Navarra): Try to unit Spain and France in an alliance etc.
That is how I today play my missions, because to conquer so much is possible is a bit to easy. I think this could spice up the game.

My personal favourite:

"Vassalize Papal States"

Not only is it impossible, as the PS never make royal marriages, but I saw it with.... the Ottomans!!

Goals, rather than missions, to be played out over the full campaign, or within a reasonable time-span. A good idea to spice up gameplay.

Fortunately, missions are going to be much improved in EU2 (or so they claim!:))

Agelastus - I completely agree; because "Keep Calais" or "No Spain in British Isles" is never a guarantee for me at least. I love the victory points, and I have to admit that I always check the available missions at the beginning of a war to see if there are any "Conquor X province" missions before I finalize my war plans.

So in Korea's case, would that not be Granada? In which case, the missions kind of make sense(need to grab yummy Tangiers for yourself:D)

My memory is fuzzy on this but I seem to remember that with the board game you picked 3 missions that you would want accomplish before a given year. I think you had 6 or so to choose from and they were ranked 1-3 so you would get more vp's ( or lose them if not succesful ) for completing the first one, less for the 2nd, and even less for the 3rd.
Once the given year had passed then you chose 3 more from a different list.

Kind of a neat simple system I think that encourages the player to plan long term goals.

even better

Better even than the Shipyard in Anglia, as England I got build a shipyard in Copenhagen! (can't remember the name of the containing province)

I think this was a bug though, so it probably doesn't count.

We've been around this block before, I really hope they do something nice with the missions since they have a lot of potential. I also hope they are more random (though logical), since it is way too easy to get VPs if you pick your own.

No bug I'm afraid-the sequence seems to run "Shipyard in Anglia", "Shipyard in Zeeland", "Shipyard in Sjalland", and then off to the colonies.

I've never worked out why myself.......and I'm embarrassed to admit how long it took me to work out where the dratted game was talking about! :D

You guys are right. Impossible missions are just useless. It seems like the game has a "random mission-generator" that should be checked for EU2, because many countries have the same missions (royal mariage with Papal States for instance), so these kind of missions should be removed from the "random mission-generator".
