Themselves: "We are Romans! Byzantium? There was a town called this many many years ago"
Arabs peer: "They are Romans! Byzantium? Maybe a town from many many years ago"
Catholics peer: "We mock them saying Greeks, but they are Romans! Byzantium? There was a town called this many many years ago"
A guy on Internet half a millennium later: "They are Byzantine!!!"

That doesn't work too well because Turkish people today would be insulted if you called them Ottomans.

While Roman people in 1444 would be insulted if you called them Byzantines. And everyone else in 1444 would be confused if you said there was a country called Byzantium.
Apart from the obvious fact that Turkey is not the Ottoman Empire - why would Turks be insulted? Honest and curious question.

The one way to end this madness is to make the start date 1453. Problem solved, no more threads on buffing the sick man of Middle Aged Europe.
Can Byz players please get good at the game instead of asking for OP buffs for a ghost town city-state?
Just because you guys don't find it entertaining doesn't mean the game can't expand in this area. Especially, since big part of the Community do enjoy the alternative history and making this fallen empire rise again in their playthroughs. Eu4 is about alt history afterall. What is your problem? Or is it just trolling?

Personally, I don't care much about Africa - never have I picked a country from that continent in my games. But I don't mind that devs launched Origins. Why would I?

Or maybe, by your example, I should say - 'Hey! Stop wasting your time! Who cares about Africa?? I don't! And If I don't - nobody should!".
Well, I don't think so...

Please don't be so condescending if you want to be taken seriously.

Asking for a nation to be buffed has nothing to do with ones skill level.

I have World Conquests, One Faiths, almost all of the hardest achievements down. I could World Conquest with Byzantium quite easily. Doesn't change the fact I think their ideas should reflect their Roman heritage.

And remove one of the most popular tags in the game? I am sure Paradox will really think that's a good strategy.

FYI that would also remove the Hundred Years War and Hungary would start a junior partner of Austria.

But hey as long as it pisses Byz players off right?

Glad we see eye to eye now. The only reason it's so popular, is all the buf.... I mean "flavor." PFFFTT.

Or...maybe people the idea of rebuilding what was a large empire?
I get you and respect you, but much of this game's strategy, has been to add buffs. After 8 years, every nation is probably on the same page as when the game first came out. Instead of adding buffs/nerfs, how about a whole new way to play. The only thing that has happened in that since launch is estates and development. Whole new mechanics would be awesome, but I'm afraid it isn't possible.

:) The best strategy nowadays is to whine on the forums until the devs finally give in. They have mission rewards, DLC rewards, Orthodoxy mechanics, estates and probably others. It's not enough, we need ore buffs...i mean flavor.

i dont think byzantium needs new ideas at all. they have the highest TOTF and missionary strength out of any national ideas both in the same idea group. they have a very strong identity from these two ideas in combination, much more than many other tags that arguably deserve something "special" to accompany their importance to the timeframe of eu4.

the mission tree is boring but its been in since release and is coherent and functional. i dont think it needs attention this late into the games lifecycle

They have mission rewards,
Like most countries.

DLC rewards
Because they are one of the most popular tags in the game, it's profitable for Paradox to make a Byzantium DLC. If you have an issue with this maybe explain why people should stop playing as them.

Orthodoxy mechanics
Oh no! Orthodoxy has individual mechanics like every other religion in the game! How horrible!

estates and probably others.

Why does it bother you so much? The only buff I am asking for really is CCR. AI Byzantium will never be able to use it because they'll be dead within a couple of years so it has absolutely zero impact on your gameplay.

Game gives the option to restore Rum, Yuan, Andalusia, Golden Horde, Majapahit, Mongol Empire and some others so why restoring Byzantium or Roman Empire should be something different?

I think also most of the content from Emperor DLC should be removed because it gives options of expansion for German and Italian nations

It's actually a multitude of tags that deserve at least an elaborate mission tree and varied in its objectives (= not only claims and conquests) according to recent standards. Maybe even almost all tags in Eurasia.

If you're tired, then you should probably rest...and breathe deeply through your nose.

Don't jump to conclusions about players you don't know. Very constructive proposals and fair questions have already been voiced here.
But he is right though. Playing as the Byzantines should be difficult and near impossible as it really was.

Everyone has already discussed this ... It is difficult to be before the victory over the Ottomans - after this triumphant moment, there should already be a revival and return of the old institutions. The developers will figure it out if they agree to pay attention. And in fact, the depth of the gameplay is not enough ...

The problem is, the devs don't have a magical wand to wave and make these changes. It takes time, money, oh and if you're new BUGS, lots of 'em. Instead of focusing on 1 nation that dies after the start date, how about they focus on something more meaningful. They have a mission tree, Orthodoxy mechanics, and good ideas. I think it's a waste of time to add features to a dying Empire. They should focus more on the time-frame instead of stuff like this. Why add something to a difficult nation to buff it? If you buff the crap out of it, like almost everything else in this game, then playing Byz will be like playing any other minor power. In my opinion, it takes away from the challenge of it and wastes resources.
