Ok I got AoD and before 1.06 I always noticed how (I can't think of any other word but Stupid) Germany and the other major powers were EXCEPT for Soviet Union which I'll get to later. I always play as a minor power in 1936 on Very Hard with Aggressive AI and I would save and load to check on Germany and other major powers to see their builds, research, deployments, etc until after 1943 or so. 100% of the time Germany seems to think its WWI and goes for almost exclusive infantry building with maybe 7 or 8 armor divisions and no motorized or mech to speak of. USSR on the other hand seems to think they want to be America and goes for a mix of tank, motorized, and even mechanized divisions along with a good helping of infantry. So this "equal" balance of forces usually has Germany forget about Barbarossa until USSR launches its own Barbarossa in '42 and Germany held out until late '43 when I saw almost 99% of its infantry divisions are at 20-30 strength and the manpower is around 0. This doesn't even mention the fact that Germany seems to love building a lot of navy assets like destroyers, cruisers, and the occasional sub to prepare to win its war against Russia and use its armor divisions as garrisons in France.

Now I haven't tried since 1.06 and 1.07 were released but are these problems that I mentioned above still present? I read the 1.06 changelog but I want to be sure are these problems just fixed on paper or did people try them out and see it work in the in-game experience? Also the AI in a lot of countries still feels too idiotic to launch a coherent war strategy. Which mods are good at increasing AI intelligence? Is the 1.07 patch good enough for the AI? Is there some kind of big super AI improvement planned with the CORE/AoD team collaboration?

Bah one thing is sure, 1.06/1.07 was basically an AI patch, very heavily focused on AI. I haven't tried it since I don't play vanilla but one could hope there is some improvement in this area. The best is to test it for yourself of course. AI builds are also a question of personal preference. In the CORE mod they try to get historical AI builds more or less. But that does not mean the most effective or logical build though- for russians that would be some super-heavy battleships for instance. The combat AI is fine I would say really. They are rather agressive, make good landings with lots of units, when you try to encircle them they notice it and try to get away, etc.
