I just read the thing about conquistadors (sp) so I think I can find them, the other thing I have a big problem with is how do you take a country? I have tried several times to no avail to take the capitol but nothing, they just keep sueing for peace.

Help?

Might I suggest that you read thro the sticky threads in the FAQ forum.
There is one thread in particular:-

http://www.europa-universalis.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=15958

that will be of help if you take the time to follow some of the links.
If you still have questions then ask them here by all means :)

I take it you do have the original EU and not EU2? If you have EU2 then please ask your questions in the EU2 General Discussion Forum. :)

If you have EU 1, then you can only take a max of 3 provinces in any one peace agreement. So it takes several bites to get a whole large country. And you cannot conquer a major power completely at all, they will always have their capital.

In EU2 you can take any number of provinces except the capital in one peace, then the capital in a second war.

Best would be to download the IGC, all countries are annexable and you can play minors. The link is in the sticky links thread.

In EU1 you either get a max of 3 provinces in a peace offer, or if you control everyone of their provinces and they don't control any province (whether it's theirs or not) then you can go for the complete annex. Of course if you are fighting a major you can never totally annex without modifying the game files.

Unless you install the IGC of course (for the 1 billionth time :) )

Also... "playable" countries (the ones you pick from at the beginning) can't be annexed, IGC or not. All the IGC does is allow you to choose which countries those are. There's even a nifty 'none' setting, so you can make it less than eight if you want to. You can even have only one (the one you're playing), in which case you can conquer everyone else if you want.

STill having problems with the game

Ok, I understand about the capturing the provences in the peace deals but I can not ever capture the enemy capitol. I have been trying to play spain in the grand campaign and immediatly attack Grenada take the capitol and hold it for about 20 years before I get sick and quit the game. Grenada has no allies according to my diplomats and as near as I can tell no colonies. The game is starting to really piss me off. From what I read in some of the posts capturing grenada should be very easy. How do you capture a capitol?

You can't just capture a capitol, you capture the capital province.

You do that the same way you take the province,in with you troops, siege (or assault quicker),when you control all the provinces included the capital province, offer peace chose annex, and the whole country is yours.

offering peace is no problem

I can offer peace, just not demand the capitol province. I can demand tribute and such but not get em to surrender. the game is just about to be deleted even though I really like it other than that, course that is a big part of the game.

A thought - do they control one of your territories? This sometimes happens wiuth Spain and Granada as Murcia is right next to Granada and has no fortress - as soon as their army walks in it's theirs. Fortunately the same applies to you - just build some cavalry in Valencia, and bounce them up to Murcia just before you offer peace.

Another - you have to decline any peace offers they make and THEn offer peace to get the annex option. Pausing the game usually helps or they'll just offer again and muck it up.
