I'm extremely new to stellaris, only watched videos on my phone so I couldn't see what to do and picked Machines so no tutorial for me. Year is almost 2400 and there is a maruader horde in the middle of my empire (My size is equivalent or smaller than other Ai nations, but their tech is all pathetic compared to mine)
The maruaders are forced to push me from only 2 hyperlanes, should I attempt to hold them off with sheer Machine Spam or submit and bide my time? Fleet power is only 7k but I have a ludicrous stockpile of most resources and am terraforming 3 machine worlds to support a massive fleet. Any tips?

You don't have time to build proper fleet. Just submit, it's not that bad as loosing territories,

And prepare yourself for end game crisis properly. At least 3 stacks of 180 sized fleets are recommended for fighting endgame crisis.

Currently AI is broken so it's not a best indicator of having strong empire.

Believe it or not, not really. About 30% off the top. And it won't last that long before the Khan will implode. Then you'll get to rampage around and smash the successor states (hopefully it smashes into a bunch of small pieces). If you're VERY unlucky it will stay a unified state after the Khan dies. Then you have a powerful neighbor so you might be screwed.

Thanks for the advice, I'll submit to him now and start building up a super navy to kick that stupid Khan off my terraforming candidates

I suggest submitting, and then building up a big enough fleet that can beat the khans main fleet.
look for his "chosen one" fleet and then park your fleet right next to it (when you are ready and not outnumbered).
then you will have to declare your independance and beat him the first time.
After you have beaten him you have to quickly rush to his main base where usualy a 10k fleet is parked with a space station and lots of smal stations.
This is were his 2nd fleet will be build after few month. I think a 40k strong fleet, if you can beat that one the khan will die and his fragile realm will either crumble or be replaced by a republic after a short time.

Now that is the "quick" way to deal with the khan, but do only do that if you can beat any fleet of the khan desisivly, because sometimes the auxilaries the khan gets from subjects are insanely strong and they will rush for your core systems! You will probably lose some systems, but IMO thats worth getting rid of the khan as soon as posible.

You have to beware that if you become independant there is no 2nd chance to submit, he will fight you until he distroys you.

The save would be to wait until he dies by assasination, though.

Thanks for the advice! I've got his little core area completely surrounded and there are only two hyperlanes from his territory to mine, I'm going to capitalize on that as soon as I can, i managed to build up a fleet of 20k before i had to surrender or he was going to take my territory, those machine worlds I mentioned are all almost done and ready to be spammed with generators, mines and alloy foundries. I think with a bit of time and all this helpful advice I've gotten I'll be able to take him down
