The big thing I worry about is if this mobile game could mean we should expect to see Micro transactions in their PC titles in the future.
Honestly, i may be mistaken (but i sincerely doubt it)... but there is little to no chance they add micro-transactions in their PC games. GSG games are not suited for that kind of stuff.

Indeed, and it's not like DLC isn't already a gravy train for them.

Why take an action they know will result in rage when there is an inoffensive option right there?

An action that will result in rage... like showcasing a bad ripoff reskinned mobile game as a featured game just days before PDXCon? Indeed, who would do such a thing?

Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you Paradox Interactive.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you Paradox Interactive.
They didn't know it was plagiarized, which was obviously a failure on their part but there is a large difference between failure and intentionally choosing an action that would enrage your consumers for not much more gain.

Showcasing it before PDXCON makes perfect sense, best case scenario it's well-received and it piques public interest or it doesn't and people get the anger out of their systems before the proper announcements.

The game is being made by paradox development studio while the mobile game is made by an external studio which indicate that it is quite unlikely that PDS have worked on any mobile game or even have a mobile game division.

I mean lets look at the obvious things..

1. It will not be a new EU, HOI, Imperator or Stellaris as all of the games are still being heavily worked on and there is still tons of $$ to be made from the current games.

2. Crusader Kings III is a possibility considering the age of the game however I find the aspect if CKIII being their new release unlikely even if they are finished releasing DLC's and/or updates to the game mainly because they as a company would want to leave a small gap in between CKII being finished and CKIII being released to ensure profit.

3. Victoria III is a possibility and I would say It is more than possible. The game is almost a decade old and has not received a new update or DLC in well forever meaning it is ripe for a new title.

A few people have stated this is impossible because Paradox already denied it however they could simply be teasing considering how Interactive PDX is with their fans.

Others have stated they wont make the game due to the niche time period of Victoria which meant it had trouble in sales however with PDX controlling a massive market of GSG games Victoria III would sell much much better than Vicky II.

Overall I think Vicky III is a decent contender even if it might have a different name.

I personally believe it is going to be a Cold War Era game my reasoning ?

1. PDX Con is being held in East Germany in a former 1950's Radio Broadcast station. Now there could be many other reasons to this maybe for more space, it was cheap to rent etc. But I believe its history with the Cold War shouldn't be overlooked.

2. It is one of the few era's that have not already been used that would not compete with other already released games. Any game that takes place before Imperator would without a doubt cause issues, a game between Imperator and CK2 would see the new title clashing to convince people to buy it as it would be going up against Paradox's most polished game (in my opinion) (CK2 not I:R).

3. The theme of PDX con just seems super Cold War like in my opinion.

Although to clarify even though I believe it will most likely be a Cold War GSG and if not then Victoria III I would also love a good old World War I game;)

A cold war game would likely be pretty close to Vicky in terms of focus, diplomacy, politics and economy while warfare would likely be rather limited.

A new Cold War game would need the following

1. A very intuitive and immersive diplomacy system, with Victoria II's Sphere system (just less crappy)

2. A highly detailed yet easy to use Economic and Trade System.

3. Representation of Asymmetric Warfare such as Vietnam, Afghanistan etc.
(This would be hard to do)

4. A highly detailed societal system similar to that of Victoria II to help display instability etc.

5. HOI IV's Military System yet with minor changes to better represent the time period (helicopters etc.)

6. A system that allows for Mutually Insured Destruction yet at the same time it Is not a game ender and would also allow for theoretical conventional wars between major powers.

This basically reads to me as a list of why it's not going to be a Cold War game, as interesting as that'd be. I feel like with focus one of these could be done well... but all? Especially the asymmetric warfare. Like I can imagine how it'd work with like blanket modifiers and such (cf. defensive pagan bonuses in CKII) but that would really feel right or work in the long run, I think.

I hate to agree with you, but I agree.

I think they could manage everything in my list other than Asymmetric Warfare, I mean I do not even know how it could be represented other than like HOI IV's new rebel system which even though is looking great for HOI would be lackluster in a game sorta centered around it.

I do believe the points on why I do believe it will be Cold War are solid but it will be difficult to actually make the game of a quality everyone would expect.

I would just be happy if they someday could produce a game of the quality to be an all time great straight from the go, something which can approch the quality of games such as Witcher III but unfortunally that won't happen in the near and probably in the far future, but we can atleast hope it will somedays be true.

I think this is the most uninspiring anticipation of a new game from Paradox I have seen in the many years I have been on these boards. The place is usually buzzing awaiting the announcement days before, with teasers & clues handed out by Paradox. It is more like a damp squid with Paradox utterly anonymous, both here & even twitter, & nothing to inspire anyone. I hope I am wrong & they will really surprise me with something out of the box & that many of us cannot wait to see, but have a feeling it well be nothing out of the ordinary.

What was the last really big reveal? HOI4 maybe? I think possibly that’s their reason for damping down the hype - they set humongous expectations with that reveal that they couldn’t deliver on.

The worst-case scenario would be that they were doing a GSG set in medieval China, and now Tencent is saying "No, or ELSE!", leaving them stuck without a game to announce, with mere days to figure out how to pull a proverbial rabbit from a hat.

Tencent owns 5% of their stock, what "or else" could they possibly do?

Imperator: Rome was quite a big reveal and we know how it went. HOI4 on other hand is their most successful game based on number of players. I suspect they would be more careful and make sure to release it in a better state so it is not rated red on steam and have less than 1000 concurrent players two months after release.
