New Patch:Old saved games not appearing properly.

This is EU:Rome via Steam. The new patch came in, and after starting up EU:Rome, I tried to load a previous savegame. The saves are all listed properly, but when I click on one, the map comes up grey, with no countries listed, no colors of any sort on the map and the boundaries showing the map of the beginning campaign. The game won't let me start because I can't choose a country.

Starting up a new game and saving went just fine, and that save does show up and load. Nothing crashes (more than usual), just all my saves are not workeable. The saves all appear in the appropriate folder, (including the new working one).

Are there any tips as to tricks that might have worked in the past for situations like this? I haven't found any similiar problems listed.

I am using the Steam version (and both Vae Victus and Gold on their menus act the same) and running 64bit Win7. Prior to the patch the game was running pretty well in this enviornment.

From my understanding of your problem, you can't load a save game from 2.1 after patching to 2.2. But if you start a new game in 2.2, save and load, it loads fine?

If so here's the answer:
Generally for PI games, it' a good idea to start a new game with a new patch. Because some problems from previous patch might still show up in the savegame, even after loading it in a new patched version. And there might be changes to the core game as well which causes the old save to load incorrectly.
My rule of thumb is: new patch = new game

If however, you are saying your 2.2 savegames does not load, then it's a different issue and the above statement is not relevant.

Thanks for the reply! It was an issue with an older save not loading, while newer saves made after the patch would load. Unfortunately, this may be, in part, a Steam issue, because it patches games without regard to your instructions on the issue. (technically, every time Steam updates itself, it seems to 'update' your instructions on games to the default 'kept patched up'.

Makes me cranky though: Ptolemid Egypt was 'steam'rollering the Eastern Mediterranean! Grrr, Aarrg....
