All,

Wonderful news about all these changes, except the reduction in BB. I believe the game needs the opposite, meaning drastic increases in BB costs to stop easy WC and aggressive play that has so few built in restraints. Players go to war about 10 times more often that happened historically.
The lowered BB only applies between players, and WC is a very small problem in MP :p

Tweaked historical years of economical techs 5 to 10 significantly.

I cant work out what this means. I like changes apart from maybe deflation. I think its a bit dramatic moving from 5 to 2. I mean the dude moved TA penalty from 1 to 5 and has gone back again. Maybe got a little carried away with this one.

Luck is playing a major part with that kind of -5% inflation random events. Even when comparing games in SP one needs to know how many deflation events a player had. I think this is better balanced.
I guess the trade and infra levels will now come later since the base cost for each level is increased.

It means that the penalty for reaching the given technology ahead of time will now be applied longer (or in other words, it will be more costly to research them)

If you want some close to confirmed data on actual tech effects, I studied the technology cost of advancing to trade level 7 for my Ottoman Empire in 1613. Before I installed newest Beta, they were around 25000 to 28000 (I don't remember exact figure), and now they around around 35000. Quite a change if you ask me; it will delay my research for 3 years. :(

I'd like some SP focused changes, too, but I'll take what I can get and appreciate it. It's better than nothing. :)

- Exceptional years now only reduce inflation by 2%.
That should make happy all those players who always kept 5% or more inflation score simply so they wouldn't be "shafted" by an "exceptional year!" :D
- Tweaked historical years of economical techs 5 to 10 significantly.
A really unusual tweak. It subjects more players to the penalty, which is of no help to those who are unable to keep up with the lawkeeper's of the world, but at the same time makes it somewhat (but note not extremely) harder for the really aggressive at leveling-up infra/trade to accomplish the feat.

I still say that the way to handle the issue is to change the slider function so that you can't ever be at less than 10% investment in the four technologies. Interesting to see if lawkeeper can make 17-17-5-5 with Russia NOW. (oh, wait, he hasn't proved he could before!) :D

Interesting beta. Not the best (I know, I'm becoming spoiled ;) ), but a good one.

I prefer tweaking the threshold years for the ATP than increasing techcosts. At least, this doesn't hamper the AI. Thanks Johan, to have the AI's interests in mind. :)
And thanks too for the TA change, this'll maybe save the AI's trade. :)

better to cut te penalty for AI at all, on vh level, anyway ai cheats big time on vh, but that TA is cheating for players, ai could have sometimes up to ten of those and some embargos also

After playing tonight I can say that the general increase of costs for economic is good, but it might be a bit too extreme for now. I don't know whether it's wise to ask of the player to invest ~50000d (~60000d with 20% infl.) as the OE at Orthodox tech (without Persia), for infra 6 in 1633. For now economic techs basically turn off, and while this is the idea it certainly makes the option to go competing against Austria in land tech a no-brainer. The end result is Austria will have a harder time achieving land tech superiority on me because I have little reason to invest while economic tech cost remains that high.

I guess the true test for this system first comes though when a game is played from scratch on it. Unfortunately, it will take a few weeks before it gets somewhere and you actually can assess the effects. For example the OE I play would not have gotten trade 6 in the first place from whereupon to research trade 7 had this game been played with higher tech costs from start.
