Exact. Europa Barbarorum's take on RTW's map for exemple, is a fine case of a great looking 3d map that takes nothing away from the Strategy.

Add me to the list of those who'd love to see an ancient era paradox game! Even better than greece or rome though, my dream would be to have a sort of "phoenician-themed" game, based around the mediterranean and middle east, with more focus on trade and colonization than conquest.

But I would certainly be happy with a Vicky 2 - I never got into it as much as I did with EU and CK, but I love the economic aspects, and would love to play a much improved version! POPs are ok, but could use some improvement as well :)

Drop the POPs!

Compromise, keep all the data about POPs visible in a popup window showing breakdown by culture/religion/socieconomic class/ideology/political issues but have the actual transformations of the POPs in a province be based on what policies and settings you select for your nation rather than individually manipulating each and every POP to achieve your gameplay goals.

Keep the detail players like but remove the micromanaging. IE, don't throw the baby out with the bathwater. :)

That said, i really do not expect it to be a second-generation game based in the Victoria timeperiod. AGEOD, who is a client of Gamersgate, is already in development of a new title (Vainglory of Nations) that will focus on this same time period (1850-1920), with a planned release of sometime in 2008.

So while I do think a second-generation game featuring the main themes covered in Victoria will eventually be developed, I just don't see it as the title they release for 2008.

Though I would be more than overjoyed to be proven wrong in my prediction come 1 October.

I also like the idea of a Vicky-esque modern scenario, in that peace rules, but war is still on the table...

I like the pop system, while I suppose...it could be streamlined, as long as it doesn't hurt the game, I don't mind. But how do you say thats its too much micromanagement? A factory is built. Make sure you've got the resources and get 3 craftsmen/2 clerks, its not difficult in the least, and its takes like 10 seconds.

If we take away the pops, the only thing I can see is HoIness, all industry the same('cause its too much micromanagement), everything on sliders(vicky's got some too...but they're teh cooler).

Of course...the mainstream gamers also wants mind-blowing graphics and thought-defusing action(as opposed to 'thought provoking' that is, couldn't think of a better way to say it). We are not mainstream gamers, so I say keep it in depth, but if you can manage that AND make it appeal to more people, more power to ya.

But yeah...A modern day scenario would be awesome...Could I come up with some scenario and event ideas? :rolleyes: It wouldn't be all generic...

And there's so many things to work off of these days! A Russian resurgence, Venezuela, Cuba, Iran, North or South Korea...hell anyone would be really really fun to play in modern day. But if not, a vicky 2 will have to do :D

Edit: Ah OHGamer, the master of compromise? That sounds cool though :p

You know what? That would be insanely cool, but I would never want to figure out how it would work out, if not all people are online at the same time. Perhaps if game speed was seriously slowed down... no, I don't want to figure it out.

But it would be completely awesome.
