Not sure what I will call this mod, was going to work on AoD. But there still some issues with sprites and other things cant be dealt with, after patching it all the way to 1.08 and still not good. So I decided to land here in Darkest Hour. The reasons I wanted to mod this, probably the best Hearts of Iron Series there is, may well forget HoI III. Part 3 was lack of realism in some areas and the naval engagement was totally wracked and sure about IV. They finally working on sometime new, but we don't know what it will be like til next year around Spring.
I started out in Japan by redoing the whole data sheets for the units. I noticed that the numbers are very high and seen some are so low and doesn't make any sense. I checked the modding guide, didn't see much infos on the number range from standard HoI II AoD to DH. Pretty much I push them back to original numbers, but polished them to be more accurate.
By the time I finish up new icons for units for Japanese and Neutral, some of their arts are good and some are not. I am grateful they made this, but they could have done better. Not sure where they get there information from for OOBs, or who ever did this didn't do a very good job at it. I remember back then when they were making this and I notify someone (forgot who) and argue in some points, mostly the classes or models weren't in order. Anyway I see few Japanese ships in 1936 scenario that multi or copy. Frankly they don't know much about history or about Japanese Empire back in WWII and again I tried to reason that person and didn't come through. I will point out what was wrong, there were two Kuma class models named Kitikami and Kitakami, and another Yura and Yuru. I also told him that some of those very old ships were scrapped or use for target practice. Hosho wont be in service due to low endurance and cant handle those new generation planes. So pretty much it will be training ship for landing like the Langley for the Americans. I know some of you guys don't take this too seriously but some do!
I added BeBros Naval Sprites, making the game more interesting and attractive, the default sprites for the Naval Units is terrible. So some of you guys don't care for sprites and rather use counters instead. But be warned about counters, they can stack pretty high and cant see what going on behind it, unless they manage to fix it.
I manage to change the DD, AP and SS flotillas as named ship, for example DD Fubuki will be use. Also added new Currency symbol instead of dollar sign, not all country use that symbol. British use Pound, Japanese use Yen and the American use Dollar. So I replace that symbol with stack of paper money and coins next to it. The next thing I need to do is rework the resources through out the world and that going to take time to do. You cant grow rubber in a desert, mostly grown in tropical regions and the Pacific, Africa and Central/South America. Again I told someone back then they have gotten their oil resources wrong in the Pacific and some places should have some.
And I looked into the AIs, there are almost the samn as in AoD and some needed to be corrected. For example Japan AIs will beef up Rabaul to level ten naval base. That wasn't smart thing to do and wasting all that ICs and resources that could have done better in other fields. I also redid the brigades for Naval Units, later on I can explains what I did, once I get this going.
I don't know when I will be done with this, looking forward to try it out once I get it done. It will be a month or so, hopefully. This just redoing the 1936 scenario, nothing more. Sorry I didn't do this much sooner when this game came out, guess I got carried away with HoI III and other grand strategy games. Hopefully this will be a good one
