So one of the newer development diaries for Crusader Kings 2 titled 'Get sick and die' explained how a new addition to the game would be the 'Court Physician' which would be a minor title given to the more well-educated members of your court whose duty would attempt to give a diagnosis when you are experiencing the new symptoms traits such as 'coughing', 'chest pains', 'vomiting', ETC. and come to a conclusion on what is afflicting you be it food poison or something more serious. When this happens they will attempt to cure you and depending on which treatment you choose, it could end in various ways.
It is an interesting idea and adds a new dimension to the game. It also got me thinking in what new minor titles could be added that fill a specific niche in your court or how what could be added to make the other titles have more of an effect. So far, I could only think of three new minor titles that could have an influence on your game like a Court Physician could do: the Bodyguard, the Strategist and the Court Bard.
The Bodyguard is exactly what you think: the person whose sole duty is to protect you from anyone or anything that could mean you harm. Though it can be considered to be a great honor to be the one trusted to protect the king or any other member of the royal family such as the heir or even the queen, so bestowing that title could give a fair increase to your relationship with that person but you have to pay close attention to their traits. For example, having a brawny, strong and healthy bodyguard is an obvious choice but choosing one that is weak or physically impaired in anyway is something that should be avoided. It also should be avoided choosing a person who's too trusting to protect your life. A paranoid one could be good, but his paranoia might be a bit overbearing and may alienate members of your court or even your close family. And if you want one to protect your wife and daughter, it should probably be in your best interest to avoid hiring attractive or lustful individuals before you start thinking how your firstborn son or your grandchildren strangely remind you of that man you thought would be a good choice to look after your wife and daughter. Of course, you also don't want one who's a hedonist, drinking away their mind away when they should be taking note of any potential threats. Each member of a ruling family would be able to have at least one bodyguard and only males could be bodyguards until the 'Status of Women' law reaches 'Notable' then women could be assigned as such.
The Strategist is similar to your Marshal and Commanders as they help you wage war and having a Strategist with a high martial skill would be advantageous. Though unlike Marshals and Commanders, they are more 'thinkers' than 'doers.' During peace times, Strategists will study old manuscripts or ancient texts of war accounts and learning from them which would give more military tech points or may help you develop more martial traits, they will also spend time looking at maps of your neighboring rival's lands and calculate ways or methods that could be used against them that would give you an advantage when you do declare war. However, during war Strategists would come to you with 'strategies' that could aid your armies such as giving them faster regenerating moral, give bonuses to certain types of units such as cavalry, heavy infantry, etc. or increase movement speed. Yet, they could also possibly backfire and give you negative results such as lowering moral, lowering movement speed or hurting your units numbers due to a lack of supplies. Having a strategist who's a genius or a game master would be helpful, it would also be helpful having a strategist who's familiar with the people you are planning on fighting. An example, if you're the ruler of Italy and you're planning on waging war against France, then having a French strategist loyal to you could increase the possibility of more beneficial events happening such as the capture of high-ranking characters. Of course, if you have a Strategists whose prideful or arrogant they may go over your head and directly sending their own orders to your men in the field which could lead to disastrous results. Of course, your strategists shouldn't be a lunatic or possessed because they may just come up with strategies that are just insane!...or maybe, just crazy enough to work? Women would be allowed to become strategists upon reaching the 'Significant' level in the woman status law.
Lastly, the Court Bard in short is a more dignified and respected Court Jester. However, in a more detailed explanation the bard is a professional storyteller, verse-maker and music composer who could write about a variety of topics from such grand stories as the celtic tale of Cú Chulainn or the epic of Gilgamesh, honoring the memories of ancestors, or commemorating the deeds done by the head of the court such as a victorious campaign or a successful hunt. The Court Bard is also great for feasts or certain religious holidays as they perform for your guests which could grant you more prestige, especially if they write and glorious song dedicated to you. Though if you request your bard to make a song about you, you should be careful as they could make a song telling the crowd about your lustful desires or your arbitrary ways which could make you a laughing stock of your court and damage relationships. Or if you wish to have them sing of your fallen ancestors they might sing about their cruel ways which would hurt your prestige. The safe bet would have them sing or recite from old great stories like Beowulf, Homer's Odyssey or Iliad or stories of myth like Remus and Romulus or Odin which depends on your native culture. Regardless, having a talented poet for your Court Bard whose loyal to you could be a great way to have members of your court respect you more and more. Women and Men are allowed to be bards regardless of the 'Status of Women' law as long as they have the trait 'Poet'
So if you have any ideas or questions about this then feel free to offer them. Also, it is very, very likely that none of this could end up in the game but I just think it would make for interesting additions.
