Which one are we using?

There are currently two being used in the multiplayer community:

Kasperus' WATK2 map, which is incorporated in Ryo's AoD mod and
Kasperus' WATK3 map, which is the newer version of WATK2.

Ryo's AoD mod has the advantage that it comes with a 1492 scenario and is more or less ready for mp. The disadvantage (at least for some) is that Ryo incorporated a lot of own ideas, like a mighty fortress in Constantinople and high manpower levels in countries like Portugal, which not everyone likes.

Kasperus' WATK3 mod has the advantage that it has a better map, but it only comes with a 1419 scenario so far.

My idea is, by the way, to adapt the 1492 scenario (or a 1520 one) with the WATK3 map and make finally a good mp mod, all together. But that's something for the future.

The old Ionia was misplaced. The Ionian islands had basically the same history. From one of my posts, somewhere else:

The Ionian islands include seven principal islands, as well as a number of smaller ones. One of them is Corfu (second largest), that was held by the Venetians until 1797.

Let's have a look at the others. It's all from a diversity of Internet sources, so details might be wrong.
  • Kefallonia (the largest) was part of Seigneury of Zante, became Venetian 1485, until 1797, with exception for 1485-1502 (? some sources say shorter) when it was held by the Ottomans.
  • Zakynthos (the third largest) passed permanently to Venice in 1482 after being ruled by the Tocco from Florence. Lost 1797.
  • Lefkas (fourth largest) were ruled by Venice and Ottoman in periods, about half for each.
  • Ithaka became Venetian in 1483 (after a brief Ottoman period).
  • Kythera were Venetian 1393 - 1797.
  • Cerigo were under Gustarini, Foscarini and Venetian rule unil 1797.
I think it's clear that an Ionian province, if separated from Corfu, as a group in EU2 share history with Corfu. A separate province therefore isn't motivated by separate history.

Heh, well Portugal already is way too strong in any EU2 mp game, after 1600. But at least they could be slapped around by anyone landing an army there and needed the support of Spain very much to prevent this.

With the 50 manpower from start AoD gives to Portugal, you can forget any historical aspect attached to the game, for Portugal. You will constantly see Portuguese expedition forces entering Europe on behalf of any country she's allied with. I do remember the quite massive Portuguese armies you send against me when I played France in the saturday game ;)

-------------

As I see it now, AoD is a nice mod, if you don't mind it isn't historical anymore. And I still like to play in a good historical environment :)

As a sidenote, the province in EU2 called 'Ionian Islands' should actually be called 'Euboea'.
Island Euboea is another thing (belonging to Attica prov in my opinion).
I thought about Cyclades I.s name for it.

P.S. AoI mod has vanilla map? What about your studies for maps of world areas?

port needs some extra mp to keep it active in europe

no offense but if you call 100 000+men standing armys in 1550-1600 historicle wich happends al the time in normal games if thats the definition of historicle i don't mind giving port a bit extra mp :)

and port is not "already to powerful in any game after 1600"

Well, those armies are wrong too. No reason to make the game more wrong. Two wrongs don't make one right ;)

Portugal was a poor, tiny country that is only in the history books of their early explorations, trade and colonization. At least the game tries to represent that. Portugal hasn't super leaders, it hasn't manpower.
An 18th century powerhouse Portugal that refuses to decline, which you see in many games, is already gross ahistorical, but eh. No reason to make it worse by giving them 50 manpower from start in addition to that.

Since I have no possibility to play I have decided to make a 1520 scen from WATK3, I will make a thread for it shortly after I have released beta 1. It will be heavily based on ebbesen scen. I just need to do something :)

Well... I did put a lot of work into making a map of my own, but I eventually got tired of it and deleted it all.
