The castle in the background is Heidelberg palace (his residence), before it was destroyed by the troops of Louis XIV. during the Palatinate succession wars. It took me quite a while to figure it out, because there aren't many images of the castle before the destruction. I guess, they used this virtual reconstruction to create the picture:
