As bias is difficult to avoid, I will invoke the soul of great Clausewitz....he was a bit prussian biased, but we know who he was

SSSSSHHHHHHOOOOOOO (smoke)

me (small voice): Edler Herr von Clausewitz, who is the greatest field commander of all time:
Clausewitz's ghost (rumbling voice): it is probably König Friedrich der Grosse
me (a bit annoyed): ahh, and who is the god of war?
Clausewitz's ghost (sigh): it is probably Napoleon Bonaparte
me (uncertain voice): why do you say probably?
Clausewitz's ghost (authoritative voice): because war is the realm of probability
(extracts - somewhat adapted - of "On War")

Many Napoleonic French generals could probably be considered part of a ‘Napoleon’ game general. Napoleon’s ability to choose and motivate his Marshals was of course one aspect of his genius.

In game terms, unless EU2 changes things dramatically, Jena-Auerstadt and even the Waterloo area battles of the 100 Days (Ligny, etc) would be considered one battle, with Napoleon in charge.

If you look for Napoleon’s generals who were outstanding (not merely competent) in genuinely independent commands, the list gets much shorter.

IMHO Massena was the best of that bunch - mind you I can't see all of these leaders making it into EU II.

If Sweden still exists in your game, you'll have no choice but to see Bernadotte. :D

There are loads of French commanders, along with the ones already mentioned, there were also Suchet nad Macdonald Lannes and Agereau, Prince Eugene - presumaably all 26(?) marshals.
With the revolutionary generals (Kellerman, Moreau, Dumouriez...), France would have way too many leaders compared to other countries.

Also what stats would the poor Mack get?

I'd like to see Soult, Lannes, Bernadotte, Murat and Masséna :D

I wonder what will happen with Bernadotte and Murat? Will they "die" as French generals, only to reappear at the same moment in Sweden and Naples?

Wellington was...a great tactician (he never lost a battle)

I never lost a battle either, therefore I am a great tactician too! :D

One thing to remember about Napoleon is that he will have both Military Leader stats and Monarch stats, and the latter may be even higher than the former. He reorganizaed the entire French Army from Corps to battalion, reorganized the political and economic (tax) administration of France, realigned the entire political administration of Germany, established basic French law to this day (Code Napoleon), and so on and on. Short of Peter the Great's impact on Russia, it is hard to find another 'monarch' who so completely put his stamp on a country in the EU period.

One of the basic problems with the basic Leader stats is that they don't vary with position. That is, many commanders are very good at one level and more and more inept at higher levels - the Peter Principle at its deadliest. Short of having separate Leaders for each level to which an individual attained (Napoleon at 1, 2, 3, 4+ stars?) I can't see any answer to this in EUII: Leaders will get one rank and stay at it, and (I presume) be rated at that rank.
