The idea is good. The Alps themselves are badly done, with the eastern half missing, two large passes covered in wasteland (the Aosta Valley from Piedmont to Savoy and the whole Valtellina, which was fought over for the first century of the game over and over again and in the later centuries as well), and general blobbiness.

I like it. Now we should just get rid of the "every coastal province has a port" thing, and we'd start getting a much more realistic world, I'm mostly thinking that France should not have any Mediterranean ports before taking Provence.

Exactly. And the pass of Valltelina was crucial for the Spanish Empire. As long as they controlled it they could still make "el camino español", that allowed them to connect their territories in Lombardia with the Low lands. Very important for being able to supress Dutch rebels.

Eh, your map is kinda bad, design wise. Might be more realistic overall, but half of these wastelands are pointless. They don't actually block passage, so they might as well not be there. The one north of Valtellina in particular, is very confusing. looks like it stops passage to Switzerland, but it doesn't. Having it there just pointlessly confusing.

That one could be removed without too much fuss, yeah, but do also consider cases with different borders - Trent makes for a massive difference if it's held from one side of the Alps or the other, for example. It also reduces direct contact between nations, and thus relation penalties.

This map is great. I just love those passes and mountain ranges.
They look good but half of them don't serve any purpose in the game. The ones that Paradox have made might be less pretty but they actually do what they are intended to do.

I generally like the new barriers for 1.19.

I'm not sure they'll have a super meaningful impact on wartime strategy because of the fort changes coming in that same version. You can't use a fort to block passage there because invaders can still walk across the entire area behind the mountain range.

Overall I prefer the new fort rules, I think, but they do make these changes a bit less important. Mostly it'll affect the order in which you take captured provinces from the enemy.

So long as outside of Europe is given some love (which they do seem to be), I'm all for it.

I started doing it in my mod, but Paradox is doing a lot more and it looks better.

Supply chains didn't exist before Napoleon ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military_logistics#16th_century ), so I don't see how this could have affected the outcome of wars. In the EUIV era, armies lived off the land, devastating the countryside to provide for their own keep. (Watch a movie like Barry Lyndon to see what it meant during the 7 Years War) The only challenge was resupplying bullets, gunpower, cannonballs and later shells. The huge increase in the rate of fire of artillery is what really started to demand supply chains in the 19th Century.
There is soooooo much wrong in this post it amazes me.
