Am honestly surprised we did not get this type of clothing![]()
Do the space cats at least get beards now?

Even the old set had at least one african styleThe women kind of only have a handful of hairstyles, each with a few different colors, and all of them are thin straight hair, no African styles. Most rpgs have more options nowadays
This is like complaining about only being given the choice of vanilla or chocolate, when before you had 30 varieties of mouldy bread.
This literally takes the words out of my mouthI have many custom built empires that use various different human avatars as the main face of the empire that I have been using for YEARS. I had Overlord wishlisted and was excited to buy it. Now I find out that all of those custom empires will be forced to have completely different avatars and will no longer be the ones I am familiar with anymore and so won't care about them any more.
So instead I will be playing Stellaris offline and simply not updating my game until ALL the original options are put back as well. I also will not be buying Overlord until that happens. It's entirely non-negotiable for me. Even if that means the end of new updates to Stellaris for me.
This has really soured the day for me and many other people I suspect.
Well, this is a bummer, this change should have been communicated more clearly.
I had hoped they would have done a 1 to 1 update of all the hair styles and clothing, maybe adding some more clothes and hair as wellHonestly, and regardless of my personal opinion on the new portraits, I kinda just assumed they'd be replacing the old ones? Like, whichever ones you prefer, they just don't fit together stylistically.
We lost quantity and gained quality (although the quality is down to aesthetics, so some may disagree). My million dollar question though is:
Also rank insignia like shoulder boardsBut when I think martial autocrat, I think straight lines and bombastic colours and all of the medals
I think a more apt comparison would be being forced to eat fried cod when you wanted ice cream and all they had was salted caramel. Instead of simply improving the portraits, they gave you something totally different that doesn't match the art style of the base game at all. It reminds me of someone adding anime profiles to the game, it is immersion breaking. I don't think anyone particularly liked the old models, they could all be improved, but the art style matched the rest of the game at least. This is like complaining about only being given the choice of vanilla or chocolate, when before you had 30 varieties of mouldy bread.
Edit: Probably went a bit over the top here. The old portraits are still way beyond anything I could do. But still, new portraits>old portraits.
Ehhh... I think they fit in fine with the newer Alien portraits. It's just that the quality has greatly improved in general since release.I think a more apt comparison would be being forced to eat fried cod when you wanted ice cream and all they had was salted caramel. Exactly. When comparing the new humans with the space elves, it looks like they are from different games. The human portraits are almost too realistic in their design and don't mesh well with other species. Mabey if they updated the other humanoids with similar changes, it would work better, but as someone who loves syncretic evolution, the difference between art styles in the species really hurts my experience.I think a more apt comparison would be being forced to eat fried cod when you wanted ice cream and all they had was salted caramel. I have to disagree, even compared to the Aquatic aliens the new humans look out of place. The art style doesn't really mesh at all, it reminds me of early 2000's 3d movie models. But yeah, I am certain everyone agrees that the old humans were not the best quality, but no one is arguing that they were "Good". They were unique, they had personality, they popped, that is what makes all the aliens great, they are all unique if similarly shaped. You could make the argument that most Aliens have identical phenotypes besides general color palettes, but we know humanity is far far more diverse than what the new models show, especially when compared to the older ones.Ehhh... Plus, even some of the older Alien portraits were just plain higher quality than the human ones.
Agreed, it is rather immersion-breaking. Like others, I will sadly have to revert to 3.3 and miss out on the new vassal/overlord mechanics. Those damn humans love to muck things up.Exactly. All I'm hearing here is that all the other portraits should be brought up to the same standard.Exactly. I'm sure the 2 or 3 people who still refuse 2.0 on quasi-religious grounds will welcome you with open arms.Agreed, it is rather immersion-breaking. Like others, I will sadly have to revert to 3.3 and miss out on the new vassal/overlord mechanics. Those damn humans love to muck things up.
Unlike immersion breaking mods, I.E. Anime, Shipgirls, copy/paste sci-fi profiles like starwars/warhammer. I can't really opt out of Human portraits now. But in terms of other portraits being brought to the same standard, I would also hope they would be the same art style, then there would be no issue with them, just hopefully they don't lose their personality like the humans did.All I'm hearing here is that all the other portraits should be brought up to the same standard.
