every game i play ends up at me losing to the rebels in about 1450 or so, how can i change it? i keep losing wars i should win, in my current game as the mamluks i attacked a rebelion in a 12K[me] vs 6k[them] they had a general who was a litle bit better then mine and the dice looked ok though i had a -1, but i lost, and not only did i lose i lost all of my troops, all the 12k while they lost 2k, how could that happen?

also i keep seeing advisors and other stuff that increase colonial range, what thats for?

*if it helps im only using ground soldiers cause theyre wayyy cheaper

That would be the biggest problem.

Cavalry is better (hence the extra cost). And there's a combined arms bonus for both. It's not till much later in the game that infantry approaches the quality of cav.

But morale, discipline, terrain, maintenance leadership are also factors. You also need to avoid bankruptcy, in case that's not obvious.

Try to make staks of 8k infantry and 4k cavalry. That should do it.
Yeah, that's a ratio a lot of people like. Some of it depends on what seems to work for you; some depends on your technology; some depends on your situation and your cash position.

Personally, early game, I go for an even higher ratio of cav (9K inf/6K cav or 8K inf/6K cav), depending on who I am, how big I want my stacks, and how rich I am.

If you're playing the Mamluks, your cav is particularly good, relative to your infantry, and your tech group allows cav to be up to 80% of your army and still get the combined arms bonus, so I would go with the highest ratio you can afford.

Um... but actually, I would contra-recommend playing the Mamluks if you're still trying to figure out game mechanics. They're not a hugely difficult country, if you know what you're doing, but they are not among the "easy" ones that are most forgiving to a new guy. France, Burgundy, Castille, and England, would usually be on most people's recommended list for new players.

What country do you play? With what country are you at war with? What is your land tech? and theirs? what is your morale? Maintenance sliders turned up? We need some important information to help you.
