I've been fiddling with the Gimp this afternoon making shields and flags. My shields look absolutely horrid, alas, but I've met with tolerable success with the flags (namely, Oman and Romania). I don't have 3d studio, so I'm largely limited to changing colors on existing designs, but this should be enough to do at least the following flags: Bikanur, Bolivia, Finland, Germany, Ivory Coast, Nicaragua, Pahang, Poland, and Guatemala (the 1825 version, without the seal in the center). The square Belgium flag and the swallow-tailed Indore flag might be doable with some additional fiddling, but no promises.

Before I go ahead and make any more, however, I'd like to know if I'm uselessly duplicating anyone else's work. Is anyone out there making, or has made, any of the posted flags?

Additionally, were any of the flags from VultureGFF's post anachronisms or otherwise unsatisfactory besides the previously-mentioned Cuba, Croatia, Egypt, and Serbia?

EDIT: I loathe typos.

I'll check. Meanwhile, all the ones I posted are correct.

Ironclads and dreadnoughts, eh? I'm sure that's doable, considering what I've seen in the thread for them. No easy, but doable.

AFAIK, we have a Finish flag (white & blue cross) & Romania as well... Any others: MAIL THEM TO ME (address in profile)

I'll think I'll make a list over which flags and shields we need, it's too lengthy to search for them in the middle of this thread. From now on, a list will be available in the Grand ID thread. If I post already finished flags/shields, please tell me.

Flags for Bikaner, Finland (with transparency ;)), Nicaragua, Norway, and Pahang have been completed.

I'm not entirely happy with the Bikaner or Norway flags (the orange in the Bikaner flag is very poorly represented in the flags' palette - it can't even be dithered well - and I had to draw the central blue cross in the Norway flag mostly by hand), but I'm not going to be able to improve these any more on my own. That said, they should be good enough to use, unless someone else is willing to give them a shot.

Is Argentina still using the darkblue-white-darkblue La Plata flag in the latest template, as in 0.71? (I've apparently been dropped from the mailing list, grumble.) The flag's a much better (almost perfect, in fact) match for Guatemala, and I should be able to come up with a reasonable lightblue-white-lightblue with sun for them.

So put me back on the template list *whine*. My real strength is in event debugging, which I can't do blind like the flags; and there aren't too many more flags that I'm capable of making left.
