Don't remember which thread i read it in but it said that the Potential of Italy during WW2 was very high but the incompetence of Mussolini caused massive waste in the production potential of Italy.

will we manage to tap into this potential in HOI4 if Mussolini is removed from power?

being that Italy starts the HoI4 1936 campaign minus 2 BBs, I should say they are actually nerfed....regardless of mussolini

no dev answer was ever given what happened to Italy's two BBs that were under reconstruction and being modernized in that time frame...

the 2 ships I am referring to are the RM Conte di Cavour and the RM Giulio Cesare

They had no less than four (4) BB's under construction. Littorio and Vittorio Veneto had been started in 1934. I'll assume they are partially built in the Italian production queue until I see otherwise. Also, in 1936, their infantry divisions were triangular with three regiments, not two. Still, their industry should be a mess and resources were scarce. Bumping off Benito would not solve all their problems, assuming they still intended on siding up with Germany.

But game-wise, of course, you will be able to out perform the real-life fascist regime. How could you not?

As far as I know, in HOI Italy is buffed to make things more interesting from a gameplay point of view. And this makes a lot of sense.
With hindsight, for an Italian player doing anything but full-on neutrality would be madness. For any other player, allying with Italy would be madness.

But the game needs Italy to be playable and to have a role.
Essentially, HOI Italy is Italy minus the Italian incompetence/corruption.

New Government in Italy
Whats new ? There always seems to be a new government in Italy.

https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Governi_italiani_per_durata

That page has not been translated into other languages (thank god), but on the right of the table you have the length, in days, of each government since the Republic started.

@shri If you look at my post, I did not quote you at all. I stated 30,000 feet because it is at these higher altitudes that the spitfire has a superior climb rate. Between 10,000-15,000 feet the spitfire loses its climb advantage to the 109 and i believe also the Yak, though finding statistics that I can actually read is difficult on the Yak so I most certainly could be wrong. The Yak I was superior to the 109E but outclassed by the 109F in just about every catagory.

No argument on your statement about pilot protection, thus why I did not say anything. My point is not that the spitfire sucked, it did not and it was a great aircraft. Just in 1940 until it gets the 20mm guns, it was not yet the war winner it became.

Wrong thread?

Why why will anyone agree to convert triangular to binary and get penalties in combat? And any arbitrary forced decision in 1938 will make most players "angry at Paradox", so the decision was taken to give binary - this is as per the explanation i had got in HOI3 forums from one of the MODS/DEVS.
Also out of 4 BBs, 2 were never completed till the end of the war, thus you have only 2 BBs in the construction scene.

On the other hand, as you rightly pointed out, any decent player can make Italy perform better than Historical.

Not sure what you are talking about. The 4 BB's that were under construction on January 1, 1936 were Conte di Cavour, Giulio Cesare, Littorio and Vittorio Veneto. All were finished before Italy joined the war and all played a significant part.

And like it or not, Italy had triangular divisions in 1936. They only changed to binary in 1938. So, to be historically accurate the change needs to take place during the game. With the template system the change should be easy to make -- just have an event change the make-up of the Italian infantry template. The game mechanics will do the rest. For a player playing Italy, he should get a choice, and I do not necessarily agree with you that the change is necessarily a bad thing. Maybe more smaller divisions will have an advantage over fewer larger divisions. I do not think it is clearly a bad thing. Just like the Italian military in 1938, the player should get the same choice. Why you think the game should abandon historical accuracy to deprive the player of the opportunity of making a meaningful decision (a decision the game can easily handle) baffles me.
