I'd make one more suggestion. If you like the mechwarrior universe, games like MWO and the upcoming MW5 might be a little more CPU taxing than most games. I can only speak with certainty about MWO, since MW:5 is mostly in the dark and features the unreal engine.

The point is, if you like MWO, you will be FAR better served by making sure you have the fastest processor available, because it is only going to truly use 2 cores, tops. So a 4.2 ghz processor would serve you much better on that game than almost any other aspect of the build, all things being equal.

If you just enjoy HBS' BattleTech, then carry on, and make sure you spring for a 1TB or 500 MB SSD drive like @smurfopax suggested.

Cheers and happy building!

Isn³t the Ryzen 5 3400G a CPU with a GPU implied by the "G"? Why take a CPU that has a GPU included if you are going to use a dedicated graphics card instead of the GPU that the CPU provides?

Why did you post the specs of the system twice?

The three most important items for a new gaming rig are your processor, RAM, and graphics card. Your processor should, ideally, be 3.7ghz or higher. Minimum 8GB of RAM, though 16GB would be better. You could easily spend half your budget on the graphics card, so this is where you really need to find a deal; take a look at the AMD RX 570 and RX 580, and make sure you shop around for the lowest possible price.

However, I'd highly recommend investing in a larger SSD, rather than stacking up 6GBs in regular HDs; the architecture of larger SSDs makes them read faster than smaller SSDs, which can give you a noticeable performance boost.

I build for fun and to game. And play MWO, BattleTech and will play MW5.

You need a good ssd like they all say. But keep one ssd for just games if you can. Battletech is 100000 times faster on an ssd...

16 gig of ram..is a must going forward.

When it comes to the cpu a faster quad is better than a slower 6 or 8 core cpu.

GPU Best you can get after the top 3 items. The 1650 you posted is so so try and go at least the gtx 1660 ....or gtx 1070 you can get them semi cheap now a days.

Look here for a GUP idea....https://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html

Mother board most are good now a days.. And unless you want to over clock don't go nuts here.

It really is easy to build it your self now a days. YouTube can show you how. And you can save a lot of money doing so. (If you want high end parts. ) You can buy cheaper pre build units but they have the low end parts. And don't upgrade as well.

Thank you for your advice I don't over clock . I will check out the cards you mentioned and i plan to get 16 gb of ram plus a larger ssd drive than i originally mentioned i will be going for a custom build

i will let you all know how i get on with this build and will keep you updated

That computer seems like it would run Battletech fine. I'd be more worried about Mechwarrior. :)

At a more detailed level:
The CPU is OK, but it would be nice to improve it if possible.
The GPU should be quite good for 1080p graphics. Higher resolution than that would probably require lowering quality.
The memory should be very good.
I'd want to get more SSD and less HDD. For any games I'm playing, I'd like them on an SSD. I use my HDD simply for bulk storage (e.g. music and backups).
Everything else should be fine with most any components that are compatible.

Best of luck with your new computer! I hope you enjoy it. :)

For storage, I'd go for a three-pronged approach:
* A small SSD for your operating system (120 - 250 GB should be plenty)
* A larger SSD for your games (at least 500 GB with good read/write performance)
* A large HDD for storing non-game stuff (capacity is more important than performance here)

The thing is, SSD's are so fast nowadays it makes more sense to just use a fast NVMe 1TB disk for games and OS. The performance loss with the OS and your games running on the same disk is neglectable. You pay maybe 30-40 $ more for a 1TB NVMe then you would pay for a 250GB and a 500GB Nvme disk.

Having the OS on a separate drive isn't about performance, it's about having a non-insanity-non-rage-inducing upgrade path.
