Gents there are 2 old sayings you all need to remember. 1) History is written by the victor. Most people that have just won a battle or fight tend to exagerate and very quickly a story get's blown out of proportion and even quicker the real truth of things that have past is lost and forgotten. I'm not saying that the Spartan clowns are right or wrong here (even though I never beleive a word they say), but at the same time I am not saying our Macedonian friends here at P'dox are right or wrong either. 2) There are 2 sides to every story, and then there is the truth. What I have already written pretty much explains this. Bottom line there is no real way to know ones exact history as it is almost impossible to find a completely nuetral and non-biased historical source. I think it is safe to say that we all have a good idea of our history and how we and our nations people came about. But it is the small things, the attention to detail things that have really shaped us and our nations into what they are today. Sadly it is the small things, the attention to detail things that are generally lost over time because like I mentioned in point one. History is written by the Victor. Yes the Macedonian people might have fought long and hard for recognition, but if they were not the victor then they don't get recognition. As sad as that sounds, I think that is the only real truth we can rely on. History does not remember the conquered, it remembers the conquerer. SE.

If I were going to be cynical here, and despite the essential value and wisdom of your statement about history being written by the victors, I think I will venture to say that in the main Balkan history features very few winners, and a whole bunch of losers (not meant personally) so much as one might say that the national histories of the present day Balkan peoples is written by the losers, trying to make themselves out as winners, as is probably best exemplified by the fact that an essential element of the Serbian national mythology is a battle they lost to the Turks, on the Field of Black Crows at the end of the 14th Century.
I once asked a history professor of mine who he thought won the war of 1812, the British or the Americans, to which he replied, "I do not know but it is pretty clear the Indians lost."

Hate to be the one to break it to you Kosta's, well acctually no I don't . But most of the worlds languages and ways of life are derived from Latin, which was the national language of the Romans, which crushed the Greeks. The Greek era and influnce ended many thousands of years ago. Greece had the ability to rule the world, they were civilized, they had the superior militaries, but they were too busy fighting amongst themselves. Ancient Macedon conquered the Greeks and then Ancient Macedon conquered Persia, Arabia, Egypt, India ect ect. Greeks sat idly in they're city states sqaubbling for mere scraps of the neighbouring city states lands, Greece did nothing. Ancient Macedon spread hellenism, not the Greeks. Ancient Macedon civilized the east, not Greece. You and your Spartan buddies think that Greece is so mighty because an army of 300 Spartans beat 250'000 Persians at Thermopylae. But you fail to recognize that it wasn't just the Spartans that bled and died at Thermopylae, there was some 10'000 Athenians also, without them the Spartans would of been massacred long before they were. Greece was raped by the Romans because they still sat in they're city states sqabbling with one another. I watched your little U-Tube movie you posted a while back. Like the Macedonian guys said, nothing but a bunch of Nationlist Greek propaganda. Greece never held the Nazi war machine. Greece held the ill equipped Bulgarians, Romanians, Hungarians and Italians at bay. But there were large detachments of British and Commonwealth forces deployed in GREECE in order for that to happen. When the Germans arrived in force, the Greeks folded and ran quicker then the Russians did. It was the ANZAC forces, that's right my granfathers and great uncles that fought until the last piece of Greek dirt was occupied, not the Greeks. As sad as it seems Kosta's, I fear that you and your Spartan mates know very little to next to nothing of your own nations history. Greece has been invaded by the Persians, Macedonians, Romans, Byzantiums, Austro-Hungarians, Ottomans and the Axis alliance during WW2. Why if your beloved Greece is so mighty and powerful? SE.
