Anyone else notice these little bars under the pilots?
h0Sn8tp.png

Do you suppose those are max injuries (based on guts) and how many remain before being TKO'ed?

Makes sense to me.
So where do you put your toughest pilots? In lights where their toughness lengthens effectiveness, or in heavies to import some zombification?

Generally speaking, I'd expect light mechs to get taken out via destruction of the actual mech more frequently than through killing the pilot, whereas heavies and assaults are expecting to weather a lot of fire, meaning lots of potential head hits, so I'd be inclined to put my tough mechwarriors in tough mechs.

Can’t look it up right now, but weren’t those bars present in the miner mission that was released a while back?

I agree, even if you take a head hit in a light the amount of fire you can weather is low enought that destruction/incapacitation is more likely. Now when you look at mediums and heavies I think it will depend on role. Maybe a lower guts pilot in a fire support heavy while a higher guts pilot goes into the medium brawler.

Yes, those bars are pilot hit points and were in the previous video.

Anyone want to take a crack at the buttons on the top right in the YouTube vid?
Wild guess: Skip animation, surrender and camera control or reset
I'm not really sure about any of those, but it's the best I got.

That's how I see it too. With the final bar likely being colored Red, Blackade's Orange 2-bar is well on the way to that Red.
Also HBS has all along been very consistent that they intended to develop BATTLETECH in as considerate a manner as possible/feasible for Gamers who might be color-blind. Having multiple distinct blocks rather than just one Red/Amber/Green/Grey block will help do this.

Good point PH, I hadn't thought of that aspect. I assumed the changing color was only to help get your attention that your pilot is almost toast.

It's not that simple, I think.
I had a recent game where I caused a 'Mech to fall (piloted by Blockade, the pilot in the roster with the lowest Guts skill), and it killed him outright! That was the first hit he had taken (head armor was still new), so he wasn't killed by the damage. The game said he "failed a guts skill check." That was the first time in several hundred hours of play that I've seen that message. I figure the skill check must have a very low chance of failure, and it required my tripping up the worst pilot for it to occur.

I wonder if that was not a straight up bug... because with Guts now pictured as individual bars, having more than one bar lost to a single event would seem counter-intuitive to me. Plus having had some hours experience in the Beta myself, I do not recall such a "Hero to Zero" type occurrence during my gaming.

Kiva has been pretty vocal on twitter about she's been heavily iterating on pilot injury mechanics since the beta, so I wouldn't put too much stock in how this particular feature worked in the beta.

Well as I said, once in several hundred hours of play. And the victim was the worst pilot for Guts in the roster.
