I checked State Machine's atlas, and Welika is supposed to be Lithuanian. Not that it really matters since Poland has all three of the cultures, and noone else does.

If memory serves, we've never been able to host more than 11 players without all kinds of instability. So, I think 11 is the max players we can do, although I'm all for trying a 12th, especially since Daed has a new computer.

My preference for the weekend off would be the 20th or the 27th. I will be in Florida taking my bar exam for that week, and can't play on either day. However, since Saturday, Feb 14 is V-Day, maybe thats the best weekend to take off.

Well, our stab problems seem to always follow a pattern: A lot of initial flakiness,(last week was BAD, even with 11), but once we get it going then we seem to be able to put a good 20 years in a row, at the right speed (normal seem to be good). So, I am not sure we cannot technically handle 12 players, beyond the fact that more players equals more chances of someone crashing and more bad sinergy.

I am conscious we need a limit, but that limit should be when people starts getting too much lag (which in our case is not a problem, I think). Lagging, IMHO is bad since it is explotable by the person with the lag (extra merchants, colonists, etc), and by the host, since it makes a difference come battle time. And in general it is a bad experience.

Resuming, I am willing to take 12 players, as long as we dont get excessive lags.

Ah, but that's Saturday, not Friday. Indeed, my mom's birthday is this coming week as well, but that's also not on a Friday.

On a different note, to players interested on joining as permanent players, be aware that:

1) it is possible the AI will run your country should you fail to show or provide a substitute.
2) we agreed that certain majors are higher priority than others, and would almost always provide a human player for them, even if it means that you should leave your normal country to the AI in order cover for a major. England, Austria, Spain, France, Russia and OE are dangerous in the hands of AI.
3) should the AI or a sub ruin your country, we wont edit to fix it. So, should I, as england, miss one session, and for example the AI converts to protestant, and wastes all the conversion money, and runs up the inflation building tons of troops. I dont get to be edited back to catholic, nor returned any of the money, nor my inflation fixed.

I'll chime in on housekeeping:

1. With only four friday's in Feb do we still want to take a friday off?

2. I vote yes with new patch. If it comes to a vote, me yes, that's yes.

3. Did I say yes on the new patch ?

4. New human led countries - I've no problem with it as long as the country is European. No China, No Mughals etc. I do think 12 is too many, however we can give it a try.

Technically, you are 100% correct. However, when have women ever been persuaded by mere technicalities and facts. If my fiance was up here you'd better believe Friday night would be considered just as sacred as Saturday. If you all have your women trained to respect the difference, you have my undying admiration. I tried to train mine, but the attempts were, well they were unsuccessful. Hence my reaction has changed from: "No, because technically..." to "Yes honey, whatever you say, honey."

Has anyone actually tried it in a multiplayer game? Simply jumping on the bandwagon to apply it is a bad idea without having seen it in action. See the Jan 19th-24th patches.

I have no problem with 12 or 13 players as long as it is not crushing the game. I would wait with new patch to see how others like it. Russia needs 2 provincess to change religion and culture.

The Monday and Tuesday games have all used the new patch and aren't reporting any instability, and by and large, are liking the new patch. I'll give a report back on Thursday after my Wednesday night game and let you know how it went.

New patch

The new patch seems fine. Austria managed to hold off the Russians, Ottomans, and Prussians for years despite being on 50% maintenance (by accident). The French routed the Spanish, though we're still not sure why.

I must say though, Sweden will be near unstoppable. Should be interesting.

guys I just need to make a point clear b/f this friday's game - w/the talk of adding large numbers of players the issue of time wasted via instability has popped up (mainly to me)

I will have to stop playing at 11.00 pm - I have to get up early sat morning, drive 100 miles and help a buddy tear down & rebuild a fence (ain't life in east texas fun )... so please keep this in mind - I can give 3 hours to the game which should be plenty IF we get started at 8pm and have no or few downtime...

Just to clrify, Hojo is talking about 8pm and 11pm CST. It equates with the normal 9pm and 12am for us East Coast folks.

Errr.... You should NEVER EVER use any other save but the host save. It should not be a policy of the host, it is how the game works. If a MP-game is loaded from a non-host save ALL events that have happened so far in the game are lost.

We are screwed!
