It's likely be OE permanently. The "regular" OE (well, regular for two sessions or something) is probably going to be unable to continue playing.

How long has it been in this game since there's been a war between two player-controlled Euros (not counting the recent franco-swedish war)... a hundred years? Two hundred? Yep, a simulation of the sixteenth century at its best ;)

Annexing Helvetia just shows that you're hell bent on conquest of everything. I object to it for the same reason I'd object to Austria gobbling up the rest of Germany. Of course I can't be bothered to intervene myself, what with my perpetual state of war with Austria.

Actually, annexing Helvetia just shows that I wanted that nice little high attrition mountain province on the border with one of France's largest and most powerful historical enemies. Not about conquest, purely about trying to maintain a strong border defense. If I wanted to conquest everything, I would have annexed Genoa when my 10 years of vassalization had run. However, rather than do that, I allied with the pope instead, leaving genoa kind of up in the air. Still vassals, but not annexable for a decent amount of time. If I had wanted conquest, I would have landed my 50k invasion force sitting off the coast of Skane in Sweden and taken a few provinces there or invaded Brandenberg proper and/or the Palatinate and taken some German provinces. Once the initial Swedish and BB armies were destroyed, it my was 125k armies against nothing that could compete. So, I think the WP that was signed was evidence of my peaceful intentions. Plus, I'm just a sub. :)

Actually in this game I have heard a couple of folks saying they were bored. The game is what we all make of it. If we want a war fest, maybe we should cut down on the number of agreements that seem to pop up in this game. The reason I didnt war after our peace Specter is the large number of non-religion provinces I have. I have been trying to convert but no such luck so far.

Rankings for latest save (1627)

Badboys
Pope 19.0
Portugal 17.0
Russia 13.9
Sweden 10.4
England 8.0
France 5.4
Poland 1.5
Ottos 0.3
Spain 0
Austria 0

A strange game indeed where the badboys are the Pope and Portugal. Russia as usual is up near the top, as is the large Sweden.

Wealthiest (last month)
Spain 286.3
England 223.6
Portugal 143.8
Russia 108.2
Ottos 106.2
Sweden 102.2
Austria 84.8
Poland 81.3
France 74.7
Pope 22.4

England is fantastically rich already. Spain and Portugal have their usual dominance. The Ottomans are obviously rather cash strapped. Austria and Sweden are quite wealthy. With such a poor France, the BoP in Europe is very different from the usual game. Without allies, France is doomed. The pope is really very, very poor still.

Wealthiest (inflation adjusted)
Spain 216.9
England 194.9
Portugal 126.5
Russia 101.3
Sweden 97.6
Ottos 90.6
Austria 82.1
Poland 72.1
France 67.9
Pope 18.3

Not much of a change. Spain isn't quite so well off, but Austria's low inflation makes it look even stronger.

Most Fodder (manpower)
Ottos 148
France 140
Russia 126
Poland 126
Austria 105
Spain 69
Pope 54
Sweden 47
Engand 37
Portugal 13

How did Portugal get so much badboy with only 13 manpower? Yeesh. The usual suspects are up near the top. Austria has quite the army as well. Even the poor pope can field an enormous army if someone could fund it.

Most successful (VPs)
Spain 2125
Austria 1655
Russia 1453
Portugal 1311
England 1223
Ottos 1085
France 808
Sweden 702
Poland 624
Pope 579

Not surprising. The colonizers and the HRE are at the top. I'm amazed at how poorly I'm doing.

A very powerful England and Austria with a militarily weak, overexpanded France allied with the very poor pope in the west. Looks like a precarious situation. Spain clearly dominates Portugal on the Iberian. In the East, a strong Sweden can easily match the larger Russia and Poland, especially given her leaders. The Ottomans are clearly no match for the Europeans. Time for them to start looking for allies. Austria is poised for dominance in central Europe, neither France, the Ottomans, nor Poland could withstand her alone.

Note: This data is taken off of the modified save with Austria's north german posessions released as vassals. This doesn't affect the income or manpower yet, but it does affect the victory points.

I know you would have attacked, probably the Spanish as well. I could not have defeated that coalition with no leaders and a poor economy. So, the deterrence was effective. I was just refuting his point that I was hell bent on conquering everything. I took one province from an ai minor and let the Swedes and BB's go with no retribution for their war of aggression. ;)

I am the first to admit I can be a very aggressive player at times. I enjoy building an economy, but I play MP so I can have a game that is more than 'build your economy so that nobody can chellenge you.' Wars are fun, especially the ones that are fairly evenly matched, which is why I enojyed the swedish war so much. It was frightening to see G2A marching into Paris with 50k soldiers when my entire army numbered less than 60k. It was exciting to raise my mass cavalry armies and whittle G2A's forces down to nothing and then to kill his rotten arse right before the reinforcement army arrived :) It was so enthralling that I yelled out loud when he died. Thats the kind of war everyone likes to be a part of. Ebb and flow, the momentum turns on a dime and peace is made before both countries ruin their economy's. A "splendid little war" if I may say so.

PS: You guys are a lot of fun to play with.

ccBasin, you think you have a lot of provinces to convert? Take a look at Poland or Russia some time. Yuck...Protestants along the Baltic, Orthodox in the interior, and used to have muslims in the south. Russia has lots of non-culture, muslim provinces in the middle of it.

I'm glad stonewall added a bit of tension, and hope he can make it back this week. Even if all the usual players are present, we will probably have room for an 11th player (we can't run with more, it never works) to play Netherlands or Brandenberg (I don't think Venice is playable any more).

Even though we don't have many conflicts, there don't seem to be any permanent alliances either. Should be interesting...especially if we get a Brandenberg player.

I will definitely be there on Friday for anyone that needs a willing sub. Netherlands might be fun. How are they doing in this game? If their inflation isn't too high, I might be willing to take them over.

holland

According to the savegame, the Netherlands (run by AI), has an income of 40 with inflation of 7.1%. Not too bad, considering the AI is running it.

They have all of their usual land except Spanish Brabrant in Europe. They appear to have only 3 colonies and 2 trading posts, so they need a little help there. Their list of known provinces is fairly immense though. Oddly enough, they are Catholic, not Reformed, with about half of their provinces converted to Catholic so far.

Stats

Taelyn,
That little stats page you put up make me feel like:
A)I have cross hairs firmly planted on my chest now.
B)The no name guy in the red shirt who goes down with the away team in the original Star Trek who dies first.

In all seriousness though, while I am doing well, I have benefited greatly from OE not being played throughout this game by a permanent player. Now it is up to Specterx to pick up the pieces.
I believe like you say Taelyn that I can handle any one of you 1v1, but together would be a different story. That is why I vow to keep you all diplomatically seperated and only war on you guys 1v1:)

Glad to see everyone seem more or less happy witht the game.

About englands situation, yes we are making some money, but it is not enough to make up for my low MP. I dont think I can survive a 1v1 war with 37 MP. It does take me two years to raise 37k soldiers! I might get some relief when I get around to conquer the rest of the UK (ireland and scotland), but still not enough :)

About this friday, I have bad news and good news :)

The bad news is that we have a commitment for friday between 6 and 9 PM PST (the same time the game is). My wife is not sure she wants to go, but it is very likely we will go (I say 75%). So if I dont show up, can stonewall or other sub for me?

The good news is that I am building a new PC, a Pentium4, 2.6 GHz with a new intel mother board, and new Video card, So I might be a little more powerful from now on ;) . I might get it before friday nigh, and the MP might be its first assigment :)

The good news is that I am building a new PC, a Pentium4, 2.6 GHz with a new intel mother board, and new Video card, So I might be a little more powerful from now on ;) . I might get it before friday nigh, and the MP might be its first assigment :)

I would be happy to sub for you. England is always loads of fun to play, especially if they have been played well, which is definitely the case in this game.

The beauty of a high income country is that, aside from army size limits, you don't need lots of manpower. The purchasing of tons of mercenaries, while a bit random in the force configurations, can make up for a manpower deficiency. An added benefit to this aproach is that it won't cost you the massive war exhaustion that recruiting for low manpower countries usually causes.

If you end up not being able to play on Friday, please send me some instructions on how you want England played. My ICQ info is in my sig, but if you prefer you can PM me or send an email.

Is there an alternate host lined up if you are unable to play and do they have access to the appropriate save file?

Taelyn-"Spain isn't quite so well off..." Spain is doing very well considering she lost all the lowlands, except Brabant (in the AI debacle :D.) As well as donating Milan and giving up claims on Naples to the Pope.

I enjoy war, I just don't think a European war is a must every other session.
This issue is funny - in another MP game the group clamers "this game is too peaceful" :) yet in another MP game I play in seems hell bent on Eurowide/alliance wars.

It's really okay if major wars occur every 40-50 years :) .

Thanks for the offer. I talked to my wife again, and she does not seen very interesting in going to this event, so I am very likely to be here this friday after all (95%).
I could however take in your offer and let you take over england for a session or two :), may be next time I need a sub. I agree with others that you seem like a nice sub to have.

Now if my machine parts could come before friday (and I am talking about my new system, not Victoria ... LOL).

No, it'd be a Catholic League vs Ottomans....if the Protestants and Orthodox want to jump in and defend the Turks, all the more fun ;)

Habsburg, sorry that quote didn't quite mean that. I meant that since your inflation is much higher than everyone elses, you're income advantage is reduced when inflation is taken into account. Spain is very well off, she is in a relatively strong position compared to Portugal or France.

As for a global war, I don't think its a problem we don't have them. Realistically, they didn't happen every century or so anyway. While we have been on the low end, its probably alright.

On the plus side, because alliances have been looser in this game than most, its impossible to predict who would fight whom. It'll be interesting to see if the continued aggression in the HRE leads to a war. It hasn't yet, but we'll see.
