The Austrian war was damaging only because it started while my WE was still sky high. I had to expend thousands of men and tons of cash to put down all the revolts (especially when you need to outnumber revolters 10 to 1 in order to beat them).

Persia is almost as wealthy as the OE, but I have a poor trade level and I'm about 2 tech levels behind everyone else.

The Mughals *were* nearly dead, but the AI has an uncanny ability to raise 70k armies overnight, and to be honest I botched the intial assault. Then the AI refused to accept any peace that involved giving me Samarkand (the only province I wanted) so the war dragged on for years before the horrible attrition from low supply provinces in Afghanistan + riots made me decide to accept the next offer the AI made...

just read the diplo thread - seems austria & poland did a group gang bang on the poor OE sub

good work - and you'll get to keep the ill gotten gains - just until you get involved in another war somewhere then the OE will take back what is ours

so either live peacefully for the rest of the game or always be ready to fight 2 wars at once

I have read your proposed treaty. However, I am leary of commenting on it until I have seen Austria's position in more detail.

Speaking of something else, it was a good thing I let a sub play Austria. About 5 minutes after I left my hard drive completely crashed and I spent most of the weekend getting my computer fixed. Looks like Liberator was a warmonger and set things up with a little tension.

War

Austria (sub) declared war on the OE followed by Poland. Poland made its demands, and rather than fight both Catholic nations, OE peaced with Poland quickly and focussed on crushing Austria.

Austria and Poland spent most of last session at war. Poland was involved in 4 minor wars (Pommerania, Crimea, Holstein, and OE). Austria was involved in two major wars with Venice and OE. Austria wanted to fight the Germans and Moldovans too, but the Pope, French, and Spanish made him slow down a bit.

To be fair, the OE's sub probably made a good choice in peacing with one of the two nations. Poland made more sense because Jedisan is worth less, and he had no armies nearby to oppose me with (he moved them to fight Austria). I was surprised that he let Austria off so lightly. He controlled one of Austria's provinces, and he had the definite military advantage. On the plus side, he didn't bankrupt OE defending it; if any mistake, he played over-cautiously.

Crimea is now Lithuanian and Jedisan is now Polish. Kalmuk is now in Russian hands (by defection). I think the OE did expand greatly in Africa though. That seemed to be where he focussed.

As for details of Jedisan, its easy to take with 30 artillery backed up with 40,000 cavalry led by Sigimund II.

I'll have to see if 30 OE art'y and the leader de jure of OE can take it back someday...

I think I'll blame- Lethke... yeah, it's lethke's fault - he obviously didn't tell the OE player my instructions (I refuse to accept ANY blame myself, no matter how justified it may be... I'm just that way)...

all I wanted done was to capture & annex Crimea... that's it - a nice land bridge b/t my south Black Sea empire and my North Black Sea empire... not much... I wasn't greedy... honestly... at least I didnt' end up w/any friggin Catholic religion provinces from the war - 4 religions would be a bit much for me to juggle...

As the sub for OE, I should explain how the war with Austria went down. The biggest factor here was the war exhaustion of Persia. From a prior war in the east that lasted quite some time, Persia was being torn by rebels as a result of high WE. The declaration of war from Poland and Austria came at this time.

Jedisan was sacrificed in order to have enough troops to defeat Austria. However, this took some time, making the WE situation in Persia worse. Poland accepted peace, and Austria had clearly lost the war. The WE of the Ottomans was fairly low, and I would have continued on towards Vienna had the situation been different. I don't think Austria would accept a seperate peace from Persia, so I had to end the war then as the alliance leader. Even with a high warscore, the Austrian player wouldn't accept any reasonable offers (Ragusa) so I took any deal I could get.

Jedisan may have been a different story with a one front war, or maybe even with a fresh Persia ally.

anevilclown - thanks for the sub - I'm sure the AI would have torn my little budding empire to sheds and I don't blame you (after having read all the info & talked to some others I can see you were doin what you thought best at the time)...

and Lethke's right... this is obviuosly ALL McH's fault and he should be hunted down and have a big old POOF sign stapled to his forehead for this

As it was I sent something like 120 artillery and 30k infantry to fight in the Balkans. They got wiped out, but that's how the OE was able to take Ragusa .

I think the next round will turn out somewhat differently.

Russia has no intention to attack Poland it that country lives by our agreement and returns Russian populated territory.

Hello Gents,
I just wanted to say a couple of things. One there is no game this Friday for our non-American friends in the game. Sorry about putting that in there again but I just didnt want some of you guys showing up and noone else is there. Second, there is a new patch out and we are going to have to come to a decision on that before our next session.

I am a little woried about loading new patch version. It may couse some problems with our game.
