Just wanted to share a new exploit I found - and maybe it's already long-discovered by plenty of people, in which case please excuse me.

I now produce a couple of small vassals and keep them happy with me for many years. When I start a war and my stab drops, I annex one of them and get 1 stab level back. Then I immediately release them as vassals again and get by BB points back.

When I become a large multi-cultural empire and it takes years to regain stability, that seems to be a nice exploit.

New to me, and it sure sounds like a horrible exploit. :D

Shameful manipulation :D ;)

If you buggered around like this in real life you'd wreck your stability completely - and trigger revolts - since it would be assumed that the government was mad or in turmoil.

Cunning exploit though. You could declare war on a co-religionist without a CB, impose war taxes, then temporarily annex four vassals and get back to +3 stab.

One month and one day later you're ready to do it again (or you would be if you had enough diplomats) ... with the same baffled vassals ....

Old exploit, doesn't work well during BB wars due to intensive diplomat requirements.

In which case nasty exploiters just release one province vassals, which will dow shortly, and which are reannexed by an army conveniently already in the province within a very short while indeed.

Both strategies are horribly exploitive since they cancel out the effect of stability hits, but to each his own pleasure, I guess.

Suggested House Rule - you're allowed to use these diabolical exploits if you think of them yourself, but once they are posted here they are banned ;)

Devilish Interpretation: I can use it, unless I post here explaining how I use vassals that way. :)

What happens though if all the other players have seen it posted and you just missed it. ;)
could lead to bad feelings and misunderstandings.

but... you still must wait 10 years to anex a vassal after you set it free, and i though u couldnt anex a vassal while at war, so i dont see why this sploit is so wonderful, anybody can explain it to me?

What I had in mind was - you can use it if you invent (find) it yourself, but then you have to come clean and tell everyone how you pulled off the trick :D

But I wasn't serious about making it a "house rule".

sorry yes I got carried away - you'd have to use some different vassals, or wait ten years before you could repeat the trick. :D

You could of course reannex sooner if it was a BB war - or you triggerd a BB war by your DoW - and the erstwhile vassals joined an alliance against you.

Also AFAIK it is enough that the target is at peace, although you being at war will make it tougher, but one-province minors are notoriously easy to dip-annex so I guess it can be pulled off anyway.

True, you need to wait for 10 years to re-annex... But then you can have several such vassals when the stab costs is taking the fun out of the game.

In my game when I used it, I had three "domestic" vassals who kept re-finding their dear independence every now and then, taking turns.

But anyway, I agree with many who posted here - this is cheating vs. real life.:(
