These traits were not present before DV, which gave me headaches to decide on sunni or chiite. I had to settle on geographical area.

Hum... That's an interesting question. But first, this needs clarification on your part : as of now, all counties are matched to a prefered EU3 tag. So I guess that your question rather is :
is it possible for any counties which own the associated EU3 tag (i.e. no other county has that tag) will have a bigger chance to become an EU3 nation ?
The answer is : now no, but it is quite possible to increase their chances (or at least decrease their penalty), should I implement this, that is...
The question that inevitably follows is : what do something specific for these couties, and not for, say counties which share a tag as a pair ?
I believe the need has to be clarified in order to implement a satisfaying solution.

No! That's actually one of the reasons why there is a tag pool at all!
You can have a tag in the tags section and not the tag pool ; for exemple, suppose you want to accept Germany as a formed state at the start of EU3, but only if the title is born by somebody, and certainly not as an acceptable choice for a random tag : then you'd say in tags that GERM converts to GER, you'd avoid to associate any other tags (especially geographical tags Cnnn) to GER, and you'd not put GER in the pool.

For example I set tags to convert NOVG to NOV, but do not define NOV in tag_pool, will this cause NOV to be used only for NOVG, and not for any other nation?

Exactly.

Of course, this feature has to be used carefully and for a select few nations ; if I don't have enough available tags in the tag pool, I probably won't be able to select tags for countries which require a random tag (because their logical choices are exhausted). Still, the tags that come to mind as candidates for removal from the tag pool are those nations which form in EU3 depending on conditions: GER, ITA, RUS, HOL, SPA, GBR

Number of tags isn't really an issue -- I've now over 180 EU3 tags in the convertor map area, and more on the way.

As for the county -- I mean cases like C082 - UTR. In my savegame C082 is a direct vassal of Germany, so I want it to convert to UTR (vassal of whoever inherits GER, e.g. BRA) in EU3. Unfortunately C082 seems to be merged with HAIN (Holland, HOL) all the time.
Similar cases exist for C118 - TRI: this one seems to always be merged with neighbouring LUXEmburg into LUX, and a few other counties.
I'll put it another way: in those cases where the CK county exactly matches an EU3 province, and is matched to an EU3 tag in tags, and is a direct vassal of a king, it should be treated just like a duchy-level tag in conversion.

That's feasible.

You're put a lot of things in my list of improvment though... I don't know when this will be done :p

Especially since these changes may have deep impacts and may create new bugs where there were none :wacko:

But that's life in programming :D

To repeat myself, from the error you have, your save contains unconsistent data... either:
  • a country has no ruler
  • or that ruler is not found as a chararacter in the save
  • or that character has no court
  • or that court was not found in the title list (i;e. the tag for that court was not found to be a title)
  • or that title holder did not exist

As I know you play with mods, the likely culprit lies there (still, I cannot know for sure). You would have to send me your save for me to investigate : at this point, I can say no more, because I honestly believe there is something bad going on with the saves which fail.

BTW, did you run a "trimmer" on your save file (to reduce size by removing useless characters) ?

I don't use a mod and no trimming (60+ mb save games...). But now I know where to look for the error in the savegame.

The converter is wonderful! My only comment is that it doesn't make much sense to take the ruling culture of the CK dynasty as the ruling culture of the EUIII nation, just because there's no way to change primary culture in EUIII. I'd take the primary EUIII culture as the culture the CK nation owns the most demense land in. After all, EUIII ruling culture represents the whole system of nobles and government, not just the King who happens to be on the throne in 1453!

This is a good question, and I admit I had to think about that one a long time before deciding what to do.

One of the thing that decided me was the english exemple : there is no doubt that the main accepted culture was the norman's one (rulers), and not the saxon one (provinces). As a consequence there were cultural frictions (translate this to increase in revolt rate). Note that in that case, EU3 (and my converter) are nice to you : the main culture (counting provinces) is still added as an accepted culture...

This is rather strange ; I can understand that this error hppens occasionally, but not for all your saves! It seems I'll have to add some more sanity checks in my code to understand which information is not always present in the savegames...

Uploaded a version with additional checks to pinpoint the cause of failures for those of you who have the following error:

Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NullPointerException
at ck.Country.loadAll(Country.java:78)
at ck.Analyzer.<init>(Analyzer.java:47)
at ck.Analyzer.loadAnalyzer(Analyzer.java:51)
at CK2EU3.main(CK2EU3.java:74)

While I still believe that the mistake lies in the saves, I do not exclude that I made uncorrect suppositions about the meaning of some fields in the save, mistake which would only manifest themselves in some rare instances.

Any feedback is welcome so that I can determine whether I must find a different logic or whether the saves are actually wrong.

Now, the solution... Well, nothing obvious. :(

The easiest one would be for you to edit your save, find the the character whose id is given, and set his court to the appropriate value CONN, ABBA, C148 in your exemples). Provided there are not too many mistakes in the saves, that would solve your problem.

Now, let me explain the problem :
What has happened in your save is that when I read the CONN title, I also read the character holding that title ; in that case, this is 54155. Then, after reading that character, I check to know whether that title is a secondary title or the main title : a character who actually holds a title as primary title normally belongs to the court of his primary title. In your case, this doesn't happen, and that character belongs to a lesser court (C012) which probably doesn't even show up in the game (because the real court is very likely CONN).

Your problem is more troubling in the two other exemples. The holder doesn't belong to any court! So where is he ?

All this signals to me inconsistencies in your save files, for unknown reasons (game bug, installed mods, trimmed files, edited files etc are all candidates for such happenings).

I am not sure about how to approach this problem. I could change the logic of the code (not exactly immediate). But I wonder about the wisdom of changing the logic of the converter to adapt to probably flawed files. :wacko:

So I'd rather have you manually edit your saves to restore the expected values in the court field of the affected characters.

hmm, the moreinfo just adds 3 more lines to the previous 4 :/. It doesnt tell me something like it tells tombom.
(Just overwrite the old CKmod.jar with the moreinfo version, right?)
Im using english game language on german windows and CK is on C: while EU3 is on E: , maybe this confuses the program a little bit.

There is no reason about that. Does the converter automatically recognize your install directories ? (i.e. are you prompted to give them or not ?). In any case, the converter would crash with another error. Is your error the standard

I have updated the three versions of cvdata.txt for use with the new DVIP.
Same URLs as in post 179.

In addition to the corrected duchy/kingdom tags, I've added some finetweaking for tags like JERU and BYZA so these will splinter less, since we just don't have the tags for them in EU3.

I think I've found a solution for some of the problems

I used your new .jar file to analyse my saves and found that different characters had same id. eg {type = 10 id = 55453} and {type = 4712 id = 55453}

Now I'm trying to purge the savegame for doublets.

I'll post here when I know if it solves the problem
