My game was running smoothly before the new engine, which added snow effects and frozen rivers and other useless stuff I don't need to enjoy the game. I get this stuff for free but not one of the thousand different skins for those little figures that walk around the map aka. armies and councillors?

I played alot of CK2, nearly 750hrs already, have most of the DLC but the newest since "Sons of Abraham" (excluding army skins, I can buy these by selling stuff I win in other games). Army/Cultural skins never affected gameplay and performance. But now this update comes out, puts white stuff all over my map and makes the game bearly playable!

The game suddenly got really, really slow. I am now only able to play it at nearly normal speed when I have the "[VS] Plain Map" mod (makes the map plain, including water) enabled and turn of trees in the settings.txt.

Before I bought CK2 I checked the requirements if I met them, I did.
But now it seems the requirements have changed and I cannot meet them anymore! In my opinion this can be considered a fraud!
After all, I spend so much money on this game and now one update makes it hardly playable!:angry:

I also cannot change savegames without having to restart CK2 since whenever I try to load another one in this weird new "Load Game" screen, my game crashes. And I have no mods running but the "[VS] Plain Map" mod.

It would be so much easier if you could just turn this white bs off and basically turn the map back the way it was without downgrading your game to a earlier version, rendering many saves and multiplayer unplayable.
IMO this is rude, unfair and uncalled for.

There is no new engine in current CK2, it's the same version of Clausewitz as before. There have been changes to the graphics, it's true, but I'm not sure what you mean by the white bits you refer to. Which update do you mean exactly? When did you last play?

Please post a dxdiag.txt (you can delete everything after the end of the "Sound devices" section for brevity) and your Documents/CK2/settings.txt. From your Documents/Paradox/CK2/logs/ directory, post system.log . Open setup.log in notepad and search for 'checksum', post that line only here too please.

Can I ask, what makes you sure that it is specifically the "white bits" that are causing your problem?

Much newer video driver for you
http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop?os=Windows 7 - 64

Please try a full clean re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "delete local content" in Steam-CK2
- manually delete all files and folders left under Steam/CK2 AND Documents/Paradox/CK2
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.

As you can see I also have EU4, which always played in the same speed as CK2 now. It already had these new textures and since the update CK2 got them, it got slower too.

The savegame I play most is a 1066 start (Stamford Bridge as Harold of Godwin) and has been going to the year 1309. Could it be that the savegame itself is slow too?

Yes, that is possible. There is one situation that's known to cause very bad performance, which is if there is an empire spanning half the map or more, which then gets a civil war or explodes in rebellion. There are suddenly too many units on the map for the game to cope with; there's no real way out of that except to surrender to the demands of some of the rebels, or if non-Ironman edit them out of the game.
