You can't individually change the titles, only the word "King" into Emperor. For example, if you're wanting to make the title "King of Germany" read as "Emperor of Germany", you can do this, but every King title in the game will also be referred to as Emperor.

If you don't mind this, go to your config folder, then "text.csv", open it with notepad, then hit ctrl f, then type "TIER_KING;King;;;;;;;;;;X" into the new dialogue box.

Change it to this: "TIER_KING;Emperor;;;;;;;;;;X". That should be all you have to do. But again, this will make ALL Kings read as Emperor rather than King. You can also do this with Kingdoms in general, so they read as "Empire of Germany" rather than "Kingdom of Germany".

i'm not sure if its the Emperor title or the demesne bonus, but wasn't there some complicated way of commandeering the Byzantine imperial title?

You can get both. It is pretty complicated, tho.

You've got to mod your your CK files so the tag BYZA displays the English (or whichever) coat of arms, and is called England. You've also got to move all English provinces into BYZA. To be thorough you'll have to the same switch with BYZA and ENGL (England's tag).

Then you have to go to the scenario files and replace BYZA with ENGL everywhere. And Vice Versa.

So off the top of my head you'd have to modify countries.csv; provinces.csv; switch the names of BYZA.bmp and ENGL.bmp; and mess around with the scenario files.

If you forget to mod provinces.csv the new English Imperial title will be recreatable from the old Byzantine provinces. If you don't do countries the names will be switched. If you don't rename the CoAs the Arms will be switched. And if you forget to mess with the scenario files the game will givecall England Byzantium and vice versa.

You can also do this with Kingdoms in general, so they read as "Empire of Germany" rather than "Kingdom of Germany".

Or you can mod the name of your country to "Empire of Blah" directly. Although that looks a bit daft when you're King of the Empire of Germany.

"Blah" doesn't sound too historic.
;)

He might try the HREE tag instead? It's found it in the World Names file in Config folder... though presumably you'd still have to do some fancy footwork to be the emperor, rather than king, of the empire.

Can you give the republican forms of government the Emperor title????

I can't see anything preventing that, but since you can't play* republics why would you ?

* You can make them selectable, but you can't create titles, can't grab claims and can't create vassals. Also since there is no trade you can't do anything interesting as a republic IMHO.
