I played a game as Bohemia to experience a play through leading the protestants to victory in the religious league war. I was leader of the protestant side for the first war, and lead the protestants to victory. At which point all of the still Catholic electors chose three province Saxony as the next emperor. Which was disappointing. Considering I was a protestant elector and had been leader of the Protestant League I thought that I would automatically become the new protestant emperor but instead the game let the normal AI opinion rankings of countries decide it.

I think it would be better if the leader of the Protestant League became Emperor following a protestant victory, assuming the country is eligible to be emperor.

If you do that, then we're going to be swarmed by French/English emperors :(

I think it's a reasonable idea per se. I'd either implement certain restrictions (e.g. the leader of the league being part of the HRE already) or instead simply add a significant opinion boost which is probably sufficient for members of the HRE to become emperor but not for outsiders to overcome the inherent negative modifiers.

I agree that the person that the person that contributed the most on the winning side should get a major boost towards emperor, the person that contributed second best a medium boost and the person that contributed third a small boost, if they are eligible atleast.

I am having a lot of issues with the League War, almost to the point that I don't want to play anymore.

The issues are it is filled with bugs/issues.

1. What was said here is only part of the issue. I played as Brandenburg in an ironman game. I led the protestant war, won. Oldenburg was given Emperor.

I was willing to deal with this, no big deal.

My issue is that Protestants have control, than Oldenburg ninja converts to Catholicism (no war, even if there was, there is also the can't rejoin the league... w t f??? - I LED IT!!!) and Catholics win, game over.

Really?

Lots of cool stuff in Art of War, however HRE is really borked right now, you guys focused on the rest of the world with the new provinces and sadly it shows.

So now I am playing a non-ironman, because frankly I don't like getting borked. Got overrun by peasants war due to having split territory that I needed boats to get to, learned that lesson. Now I don't take separate provinces, far to risky when unable to get military access and losing 1/2 your land to one peasant stack.

2. Now the latest game. I stayed Catholic, had Bohemia in PU, Austria upset enough electors that I got emperor and I maintained my relations to maintain it. Cool right? Well only reformed electors, league never fires. I can never enforce religion and it is mid 1600s. Sometimes I get a random event to request electors switch to Catholic, but fighting Reformed is impossible.

Sadly I feel like if I want to stay Catholic, the best way to win the HRE and game the system is probably to go to Protestant for 10 years to take a center of Reformation which in my opinion are far too weak, and then switch back. Effectively making there be only 2 centers without having to war against them to take them out.

Brandenburg just has a tough time with all of the reform desire, even as Emperor and not taking the events that give reform desire still couldn't resist against being converted by Leipiz, even though I had Emperor, blobed, etc.

I've read up as much as possible on the HRE, about the penalty for not having 7 electors. I'm just in a tough spot with the post league war event not firing since there was never a league. I think it is now 1638, isn't the event supposed to auto-fire by now? I need to be able to enforce religion outside events to build Imperial Authority. Right now I just beat back France, sadly had to ally Austria again to do it, to release some HRE nations to gain some IA again. When someone goes non-Catholic I lose 10, when someone comes back I gain 3????

At least there are some events that are firing which are to request electors to come back to Catholic, but I have to ally and RM them to maintain their vote. How the heck can I do this?

My only other option is to un-ally them one by one, and fight them and enforce religion, or wipe them out??? I don't want to vassalize for the -50 but I might have to vassalize all of them?
