I decided to continue my current game with the new free patch. No new DLC purchased yet. What I immediately see is that the elective system has changed criteria for the chosen candidate.

In all my previous games I select my best son as a heir and it was a matter of time that he was elected before my main character died so I had plenty of time to do it. Now I see that it doesn't work anymore. I elected my son and after 10 years!!!! :eek:o_O I'm the only one of my 20 electors who chooses him. No matter what I do, he's is sistematically rejected and other candidates are the chosen ones.

Could someone please tell me the new criteria used by the IA for the elective system?

Thank you in advance.

I am still baffled as of why we still cannot use Favors and bribe electors so they vote for our candidate. Or even create a Faction specifically to gather electors to vote for a candidate.

Can culture's candidate be the key factor? My candidate and my main character belong to the same culture (Catalan) wheras the empire I rule (Francia) is essentially French. Could this be the reason?

Vassals tend to prefer lieges of their own culture, so that is very likely a contributing factor.

Confirmed. I edited the save and changed my heir's culture to French and in a few months he became the elected one. I never played a situation like this so I don't know how to deal with it. How can my candidate being elected without editing the save? :(

Losing one election is no big of a deal. Lose the election, faction your way to the throne again (you'll have a claim on France) and make sure your grandson is French.

I don't know why, but the elector chose the correct option and my son is the new empire's heir. I'm worried about this apparently random collection of calculi related to election of candidates. As far as the search engine of this forum is concerned, there's no thread dedicated to investigate what criteria are used and how the player could take advantage of them. I haven't found a specific wiki page about it. I find it surprising as this is one of the more disected games I've ever played. Why no one did it do far? Just curious.

LTP - Learnez To Parlaiz ! Convert culture to French via Intrigue menu, options usually exist to convert to culture of your capital territory or culture of your liege IIRC.
