It's not copy protection. This patch could cheerfully install over EU3 without NA. However you do get a rather nasty crash on load. To prevent this from happening the installer makes sure that you have NA installed.

So that is why some people got banned recently? How does Paradox make certain they get the right (or, in this case, wrong) people?

Because I encountered the same error when trying to install the patch, but did a clear reinstall and that solved the problem. Should I come to the forums to seek help instead of reinstalling first, might I have gotten a ban myself?

Well, when after spending 1 hour of time trying to help someone to install a patch for NA, only to be told. "My cd of NA in language X did not come with a proper installer", you tend to get very suspicious... Considering its kind of not sold on CD at the moment, and not on that language, and we so far has always had installers....

That is funny because i got his error message when i tried to install the 2.1 patch on top of my machine which did not have Nappy installed on it.

I think the person just made a mistake and thought that the 2.1 patch was for regular EU3

No there are some people, who for reasons I am not clear on why, have a problem with the NA install. A simple uninstall and reinstall solves the problem.

Isn't it possible that it's due to people creating a back-up cd? Duuk's signature has a method for it. However, when placing the NA-directory on top of the EU3 one, as proposed in that method, the registry does NOT get updated. So the patch can't find it.

If so, making a back-up cd is kinda useless if you want to be able to install patches.

I have no idea on that one. I'd need to ask the guy who made the installer.

Edit: According the GG team, it shouldn't make any difference.

Well, for me atleast it was because I had just copyed the files over the EU 3 dir from a backup. Then the reg files wasn't there, and I had to install NA again the normal way (download via GG).

If you just copy the game files then yes it wont put a registry entry in, you have to run it from the installer programme.
