Kingdoms of Amalur releases on Feb 7th. That's the biggest thing in the room I believe. Especially on Steam, they will be pumping out tons of ads and front page stuff. By waiting until the 14th, it can have its week in the spotlight before Crusader Kings 2 has its front page glory on Steam.

You are not going to garner any more fans just by moving it back a week. You should of just stuck to the game plan and made it the 7th. You have ruined my whole week, and yes, the whole ruined week was BASED AROUND CKII being released on Feb. 7th. Hopefully the extra week gets you the attention you deserve. I just wanted to let you know people do make up excuses at work and at school to be sick for a week.

HeHe I know :D But if only she was CK fan too and we could do both. But think I'll play it safe and just wake up at like 6AM before work to get a quick gaming session in. WOOT so excited for the 14th now.

Really? You sure you can just get a quick gaming session from a new game? :p Thats a lot of will.
Anyway, if this brings more players, even for MP, thats great!

Crusader Kings 2 doesn't seem to exist at all on Steam, no pre-order, nothing. That's what's really worrying me. I hadn't realised this till today. The only game they have that is "Coming Soon" is King Arthur II.
Is this standard practice for Steam or is there more to this than meets the eye?
After all Gamersgate has had CKII advertised since beginning of December!

Hmmm.... thanks for being very straightforward about what's going on. That is much appreciated. And at least,

1. The demo date won't change.
2. It's not because you discovered a mortal flaw in the code somewhere
3. I wasn't planning to take a gamecation that I now have to change, which would surely make things awkward in the office
4. If you strategy works out and this becomes a big success, there'll be more and better games in the future... dare I say EU4?

Seriously, what is this Kingdoms of Amalur thing? Never heard of it before this thread, but it's come up several times now...

I quite agree. If the plan is to increase publicity then a new marketing strategy might be in order to replace their current one (which seems to be 'don't bother doing anything').

If the aim is to avoid competing with bigger-budget releases, and to get people who will be spending their time and money on one of the other games released that week then I'm afraid they're in for a shock as most people do not have the money to throw around like that, especially not these days. For most people it's going to be a case of buying whichever game most interests them, and a week isn't going to alter that. In which case it would make more sense to release a week earlier than a week later.

If it is, as some have suggested, a problem with Steam, then that's unfortunate. Perhaps PI shouldn't be limiting their distribution options so much. Personally I've never had a problem with Steam, but I've often got the impression that PI and Valve haven't always been on the best of terms and was hugely surprised when they announced this almost-Steam-exclusive thing for CK2. I just hope that decision isn't coming back to bite them, and all of us.

You're not the only one. Perhaps those of us who take the time off to play games are idiots really, but it's infuriating all the same. I for one will try to learn a lesson from this and not get so ahead of myself when the next exciting game comes out ;)

Still, that doesn't ease the annoyance now, and especially as this is only one of 3 disappointments I've had from PI very recently (AHD also being delayed, and the new project announced the other day not being EU4)

Its a new third person Fantasy RPG. It's looks like a more grown-up Fable. On first impressions it seems pretty lame despite the usual rave reviews.

The only problem with valentines day is that my girlfriend have to much intrigue and diplo-skills for me to handle, so I have to wait to the 15th. Its not that easy to plot in RL. I want a spymaster with 22 intrigue so I can play on release day!

It looks like fable tbh.. I am also a big RPG fan and that game don't spark any interest whatsoever. so well I doubt they are worried about that game

Indeed. I think it would be better to compete with the other games, but then again, from my expierence the easiest way to get people into Paradox games, is to invite them over and let them try/watch games, I made a few people buy EU3 based on that.. trust me they didnt find it interesting before they actually tried it

If it is, as some have suggested, a problem with Steam, then that's unfortunate. Perhaps PI shouldn't be limiting their distribution options so much. I use steam and have been since the first day.. I never had problems myself but I have seen alot of issues when it comes to game releasing and problems with it. so this might be a steam issue sure.

Never plan to far ahread in my opinion, I have seen countless people get burned due to this over many years. sure we can still be abit disappointed about various stuff (I am not disappoint about EU4 not in dev yet, it will come in time)

I have to say it, because I think it needs to be said : From a sales/marketing stand-point, how do you think it sits with your client base to renege on a commitment? You have more to loose from flip-flopping then you have to gain. Especially because you have told us that this *is* a marketing decision, and not a development decision. If I was told this was going to make the game better, I could accept it. But given I am being told this is completely arbitrary and will not impact the quality of the product, it feels wrong.

This having been said, I am a loyal Paradox customer, and I have been for over a decade. But I am profoundly disappointed.
