I’m getting fed up with being misslead over release dates to be honest. Not sure pre-ordering is worth it if you are going to deliberately hold back downloads after taking my money.

100% correct.
Like I said earlier the main problem is that they take the money from your account on the day you pre-order not on day of release. Amazon do the latter hence when release dates are put back it's less problematic and not such a big deal.
Gamersgate have £30 pounds of my money and there seems to be no concrete guarantee I'll receive the goods I've paid for until a 'third party' deems it convenient for them . I'm sure that give me legal recourse to complain.
This also has nothing to do with developers who want to see their product released just as much as we do.
My guess is that EA games forced steam to delay crusader kings so that the kingdoms of amalur would not have to compete. And since ea is a bigger ompany they got what they wanted. Paradox was forced to concede, and give us a cheery version of events.
What a random, out of the blue conspiracy theory. It doesn't even make sense.
In the digital-download market, Steam are the big boys, and EA the underdog. It's a spot they aren't used to and don't know how to handle, thus leading to the hot mess that is Origin. EA can't force Steam to do anything in the PC market, they aren't big enough. All they have been able to come up with to affect Valve is to make their in-house published titles exclusive to Origin, which I suspect hurts them more than Valve.
EA just isn't a factor here.
And why would CK2 be competition for KoA? They aren't even the same genre.
We have to remember that paradox are attempting to broaden their consumer base. This means having the attention of as many people as possible. If CK2 can get a front page release on steam then it stands to reason millions (yes im serious..millions) of people will click the link....now, hopefully some of those people will buy it, maybe being there first paradox game ever....or maybe they'll buy a different paradox game that's cheaper to see what the games are like.
If paradox has no competition on this day, that is good. If they left it on the 7th they'd have these:
The Darkness 2
Jagged Alliance BIA
KoA
Now, I'm pretty sure paradox wouldn't get much front page attention when in the presence of those games. Two of which have a solid following already.
And why would CK2 be competition for KoA? They aren't even the same genre.
Yep, no way EA cares about CK2 enought to do anything like that, even if they actually got on well enough with Steam to get some sort of agreement with them. EA aren't even listed as publishing KOA on Steam, its developers are.I doubt EA would need to force anybody to delay the release of Crusader Kings or even care enough to do so. EA has enough cash to out-market Paradox if they were seriously concerned that it would compete massively with their title, which I am sure they don't as whether we like it or not CK is a fairly niche market game with potential to entice people in.
It was in response to this...perhaps I should have been more clear.
The rest of your post I agree with.
Stop being so silly everybody, the delay is obviously only there so they have time to release another Seven Deadly Sins movie just before the release.
Delays like this are never accidental. Someone calculated that someone would make more money out of it.
I must humbly reply with an utmost thanks, for it gives me a week more to enjoy life before I take the crown and digress myself into the running and managing of a fictional kingdom.
