I was expecting to get 6 days' worth of play in before a family visit - which starts on the 14th. A demo and/or early manual will ease my sorrows.

Wow. . .I have a hard time believing my favorite game developer wouldn't release the product on time for this reason. It'd be different if they needed another week to make it playable, but this is only two weeks before the scheduled release date and seems to be pure marketing! I can't imagine what my customer base would say if I post-poned delivery of a product like that.

Thinking about it for a bit, it doesn't make that much sense. People who hang on these forums and have pre-ordered the game/intend to buy it will buy it whenever it is released, right? The ones Paradox seems to want to reach out to are people who are not baptized into the grand strategy/rpg genre which CK2 represents. Does it matter much when you get to these people? I understand that you want to reach this new audience while it isn't already invested in other games, and thus you want to aim at them with the PR-machine at the right moment (which Feb. 14th may well be) but us who already know of the game and will already buy it will be stuck with no game for another week. Not a huge issue I agree, but what if you...

2. ... but go loose with the PR-machine for Feb. 14th?
Sales that would have been made by Feb. 7th will be made no matter what and it is for the wider audience Paradox is clearly shooting with this new date (who can blame them? everyone needs their money) and for them who may or may not yet know of the game or be interested in it the release date could matter less as long as it doesn't coincide with other more enticing games (like Mass Effect 3).

I guess they want to have preorders on Steam too. People seeing the game on Steam`s webpage is going to bring lots of new people.
Well, it's a lesson I learned years ago: Never count on a game releasing on time, no matter the dev, no matter if it's the day of release or whatnot. If I want to take a few days of gaming-time off work or whatever, I usually wait until the game is released before I plan it.
Why does this sound like corporate meddling? Like you want to push the release date back to make more money? Not like we can do anything about the release date being pushed, and like the poster above me, it happens all the time...we'll just have to deal with it.

I don't mind the release date change, so long as the game is playable and mostly bug-free on launch with solid game balance.
This game has the potential to get me back on the Pdox fanboi wagon.

. But seriously every time I see that meme I lose a little bit more faith in our internet age.
I'm all for them making money. I would have paid twice the retail for this game. . .but this is just bad business practice in my opinion. Snuff the guys you know will buy the game (or in many cases already did) for the guys who "might" buy the game on a different date. Like they have to be mutually exclusive anyway.

I think you mean "snub" .. unless there's a conspiracy from Paradox to suffocate the fans that everybody knows about, except me.

I'm sure they think it's best. I don't know any company that tries to "suffocate" their fans/customers, but some business decisions are in bad taste.
