Starting OOBs

I think that this mod should have separate scenarios for the 1936, 1939 and 1941 scenarios, like what was done with the EEP and AGC. This would give players the option of playing generic HoI, as well as modified HoI.

There are many historic errors in the starting OOBs of most nations. I think we should modify the scenarios to have historically accurate starting scenarios.

This would also fix some gameplay problems where certain nations were too powerful due to over-representation of forces (especially in the 1936 scenario).

I have a few scenarios already modified for 1936-41 of many major and a lot of minor nations.

Have you got anything on 22/6/1941 ie Barbarossa? Having this would make C.O.R.E. stand out from the un-modded HOI immediately and is likely to be popular with a lot of people. There's a lot of published OOB's for that time-frame, at least for the two main combatants.

Hello, I can provide detailed OOB's for all Barbarossa Participants.
I have an extensive Excel file I have compiled as part of my research into making the War In Russia Scenario mod "Possum"
The scenario can be downloaded from this website.

http://www.davescorner.de/index_en.html

Select the War in Russia, then Scenarioes, then Possum v5

The Excell file is incuded in the Scenario pack.

As you know i have started working on a modified US Navy OOB. The army and airforce seem right so i will leave that alone. The only problem i have is that the US Navy had a ton of destroyers in reserve (14 desdiv in my oob file) and i put thier strength at 1. Anyhow i hope that works. BTW if anybody has info on the desdivs of the US Navy pre 39 i would love to see it. I am just making up numbers for half of the DesDivs currently. A Cruiser and battleship list of divisons would also be benifital as well.

US Navy OOB

I've got lists of aircraft carriers & battleships that saw service, and also have a full list of cruisers (supplied by the US Navy Cruiser Sailors Association). I originally got these to produce a list for when new ships were built.

But I can easily work out which ships were in service in 1936, or whichever scenario is being modded.

OOBs for 36 and 39

Did a crazy amount of work over the last few years trying to do a mod to Axis and Allies board game to play a little more realistic (huge task). Did extensive research into maps, industry, railroads, armys and naval setups. Have little to no experience moding HOI other then trying to make the naval warfare a little more realistic. I will try to contribute what I can over the next few weeks on what I have done and what HOI has as default setups and what I feel should be changed. All observations will be using 1.03 for now.

Ok here we go for info on France 36' for naval units

should be 3-BB> Bretagne, Provence, Lorraine (all class 0)

should be 7-CA> Algerie (1), Colbert, Duquesne, Tourville, Suffren, Foch, Dupleix (0)

should be 5-CL> Emile Bertin (1), Primauget, Duguay Trouin, Lamotte Picquet, Jeanne d'Arc (0)

nows here's where we run into a major problem with HOI and its naval units, CL (light cruisers) are not the same quality as a (heavy cruiser) so in reality they should be 2 ships for 1 CA on the board. If thats the case then.....

should be 3-CA> Emile Bertin Cl, Duguay Trouin Cl, Jeanne d'Arc Cl (0)

should be 10-DD> 2 (1); 8 (0) (taking into effect that 1 DD = 5 ships)

should be 7-SS> 7 (0)

On the build que should be a few ships

CVL- Bearn (0) undergoing re-fit (Apr3/37) no ICs

BB- Courbet, Paris, Ocean(ex- Jean Bart) (0) undergoing re-fit ( the Ocean was so useless that the French didn't even consider her seaworthy. The other 2 ships in this class received minimum refit.) Ocean- Jun30/36; Paris, Courbet Oct15/36 no ICs

3 CA- La Glaissonnierre Cl (1) (Apr1/36), Marseilles Cl (1) (Oct10/37), Gloire Cl (1) (Nov15/37) all should cost ICs

The French should be working on naval techs at 0 class CV, 1 class BB, 1 class CA, 1 class DD and 0 class SS

And here's the France 39 naval set-up

should be 2-CV> Bearn, Comm. Teste (0)

should be 7-BB> Dunkerque, Strasbourg (1), Bretagne, Provence, Lorraine, Courbet, Paris (0)

should be 7-CA> Algerie (1), Colbert, Duquesne, Tourville, Suffren, Foch, Dupleix (0)

should be 6-CA> La Glaissonnierre Cl, Marseilles Cl, Gloire Cl (1) Emile Bertin Cl, Duguay Trouin Cl, Jeanne d'Arc Cl (0)

should be 10-DD> 2 (1); 8 (0)

should be 7-SS> 7 (0)

1DD and 1SS should be set-up in the Pacific

On the build que should be a few ships

BB- Richelieu (2?or1w/350mm+) (June15/40), Jean Bart (2?or1w/350mm+) (June6/41), Ocean (0) (Dec6/39)

The French should be working on 0 class CV, 1 class BB (maybe 2 or 1 +350mm guns), 1 class CA, 1 class DD and 0 class SS

As for transports and escorts, thats out of my league, but a guess would be 6 escorts for convoy duty.

ps- IF anyone knows how to add new units, Battlecruisers and Light Cruisers would be a much need addition IMHO
:rolleyes:

Just had a major revelation, playing around with the scenario OOBs it seems you can make every ship have special values if you wish. This leads to the possibilty of having all the navies fairly accurate. Now if we can figure out how to make CVs work properly then the naval war may become very intresting indeed.

i have the US OOB for the navy done. I posted the file on my site http://www.gecities.com/mdhofstee/Hoi.html so take a look. The production seems pretty good. I need to change a few BBs names, i doubled 2 names and left out 2. Been up way to late doing this. anyhow I thought I post it. BTW i have an idea regarding carriers but it will be a pain in the neck to implement but its possible.

well, i like this idea, but try to make it clear, so we can copy and paste it in a new campaign file. (the *.inc for every country)
you can use the # to separate things and all kind of stuff so it is clear separated from the country starting parameters.
for example:

#####################
########OOB##########
#####################

########LAND##########
...
#########AIR##########
...
########NAVAL#########
...

just a recommendation...
keep up the good work.

:D

yeah, you can manually change the stats in the oob.

reduce the naval attack and sea defence values for the ships in question.

example:
example: the German CL "Leipzig"

division = { id = { type = 17702 id = 5 }
name = "Leipzig"
type = cruiser
model = 0
seadefence = 4
seaattack = 4
}

http://www.europa-universalis.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=55656

thanks for the info. I think i will reduce all of the LC in my game by that. Say I have an idea. Why not just make new models of all of the cruisers. Have the following units
pre-war LC model 0
pre-war HC model 1
pre-war BC model 2
basic LC model 3
basic HC model 4
basic BC model 5
and so on. and all we would have to do is reduce the numbers down a touch for the LC and raise the BC up a bit more.

C.O.R.E. Scenario Nation Names

We all know that HoI is somewhat inconstant when it comes to many things, and one of them is how they name scenario files.

For example, Australia is named...

1936 scenario is called: australia.inc
1939 scenario is called: ast.inc
1941 scenario is called: ast.inc

I say that we follow Paradox's naming of scenario files for 1939 and 1941 for all of our custom scenarios, but possibly add an extra bit of information to help keep our editing in order. For example..

1936 scenario would be called: ast36.inc
1939 scenario would be called: ast39.inc
1941 scenario would be called: ast41.inc

or possibly...

1936 scenario would be called: ast36core.inc
1939 scenario would be called: ast39core.inc
1941 scenario would be called: ast41core.inc

Any comments?

Another idea would be to spell out the location of the units like this:
Province = XYZ #Tokyo (Yokosuka)

I think the starting OOB for the spanish civil war should be determined for CORE.The unhistoric random OOB in the game today,is silly.I could provide some fairly historic data if needed.

the problem with that is that the player (or the AI) can move them just before the war, so there is no way to stop that. :(

I can provide the starting land OOB's (1939) for the Commonwealth nations, Germany and the US. Possibly France, Belgium, Nederlands and Italy as well (the later my info might be for 1940 only, with some guesses to determine their status 6 months earlier). I think I have the Polish OOB as well.

If there is an interest for these, contact me by email. I don't read these boards all that much (and have had problems loading the paradox forums in the past). I don't have these orders of battle ready, but can make them relatively easily. The 1941 OOBs for those same countries would be a bit more work but also possible. The 1936 OOB I could only derive from the later ons, which is not the best I expect.

Marc aka Caran...

P.S.: email caranorn@cmdnet.lu - put OOB in the subject if possible
