I still have to read a post regarding the new naval warfare system introduced with 0.82....

This means:
1) It is perfect! ;)
2) Noone noticed it!
3) Everyone played only Switzerland! :D

Well, i'm currently playing a game as ENG, so whatever i like it or not, i have to pay attention to the navy :p , and although i'm not very fond of XXth century naval warfare (engines, turbines, who needs 'em?!! give me a 1st Rate of the line man'o'war like the 'Santísima Trinidad' with full sails and 100+ 32 punders!! ), i find that the combined affects of 1.06 and core 0.82 have made the naval warfare in HoI much better!!!. :)

I just had an strange moment yesterday. 2 transport fleets (a total of 10-12 liners) escorted by destroyers, sloops and a light cruiser encountered the remainings of the italian navy (which, i must say, was being unsuccesfuly searched by my Mediterranean fleet to finish them all), and were defeated ina long battle while trying to disembark my divisions in Tarento. When looking at the remainings of my failed invasion fleet, i noticed that all the warships were exterminated (what i found logical, it was a long battle and were small ships) but the transports were in a very good shape! (i think that only 1 liner was sunk, but im not sure)... that's weird, i dont know why it happened that way.

I think I read somewhere that with 1.06 Transports are treated as second line ships so you have to beat the main ships before you can get to the transports. Good IMO, but unfortunately it also works that way with air attacks on ships which sound a little goofy to say the least

Oh well cant have it all I guess

Yep, sounds reasonable. But in this case, the escort was defeated and still my transports suffered very little losses, i suppose that like it happens with most of new features, it needs 'fine tunning'. :)

Japan not surrendering?

Hi,

I'm playing the US (my first game) and it's Feb 43. In October of 42 I captured the last of the Japanese Home Islands (all the ones with stars) and saw these events fire one after the other:

21:00 October 21, 1942 : Japan went with Honour demands that we fight to the end in Home Isles are lost.
21:00 October 21, 1942 : Japan went with Surrender to the enemy forces in Home Isles are lost.
21:00 October 21, 1942 : Japan had Japan stands down all forces .

Now, I only saw this last event looking at the savegame file just now. Thing is, Japan has not made a surrender offer, nor are the Annex and Puppet options lit on the diplomacy screen. I have now taken all of the Korean peninsula and Taiwan. Except for Shanghai (and maybe some provinces in Indochina) there are no starred provinces under their control. (I also have taken all their Pacific island possessions and they didn't take anything from Holland or Australia.)

What am I not doing to make them surrender? Did I screw up when that "Japanese Forces are standing down" event fired and I kept attacking because I didn't see it?

Certainly the land campaign is good practice for me and I'll eventually take the rest of their provinces, but I'd like to know what happened and what I could do about it, if anything. (Or how not to have that happen again.)

Thanks.

A few questions about Germany vs Russia

1) Why is it that Blitzkrieg takes in some cases weeks later to pull off than just attacking one province, stopping, then attacking another?

2) I thought there was supposed to be a penalty when you have troops>commanders ability I was in an extensive war with Russia and they were using every commander they had left. I was seeing numbers like 51/24, and 29/18 against my 24/24's and even when there was no snow I was getting hammered (these were all defending actions by the Russians). Is there some advantage I don't know about that gives bonuses from having multiple commanders on the field other than the 48/48 possibility? For instance do you get the special attack/defenses of all commanders for their respective groups?

I apologize in advance if this goes into a specific forum, and I appreciate any and all answers or comments.

Maybe you've only downloaded the v0.82 patch and not the proper v0.8 installer.
Go to the CORE page again and look for the installer v0.8
After that install the v0.82 patch over it. The desktop icon should be there.

You need to follow the installation instructions, or you will end up with strange errors. The correct order is:

Uninstall HoI, and remove any rermaining folders/files
install HoI
patch to 1.06
install CORE 0.8 to HoI directory
apply CORE 0.82 patch

You should then have everything in its place.

I saw that the French province in Batna (North Africa) has an output of 30 steel. That is pretty much, isn't it? Is this intended?

Probably is intended, but I'd have to look again. Please keep in mind that "steel" doesn't just mean steel. It could be iron ore, or aluminum, or some other industrial metal.

These are all vanilla HoI issues, unrelated to CORE. :D

Even so...

1. I don't know, as I never use the blitz option. I like to re-equip my units before sending them into another meat grinder.

2. I believe that each different stack gets that stack's commander's trait bonuses. I could be very wrong about that though. Otherwise, it is just sheer numbers that are killing you. Especially if you are on the offensive. Attacking at 1:2 odds isn't all that great an idea, unless you have a huge tech advantage, and/or some god tac air support.

Combat modifier mixup!

Don´t know if this has come up before on the forum but i coulnd´t find it, so here goes. Been playing core for a few months now and after i installed the new mod i started a new game with the japs. Got into some action into the mountains with my new mountaineer units and instead of them having a bonus in the mountains they got a -520% modifier! I tryed to ignore it and play on but then i also got the same negitive modifier when fighting with my regular infantry in the desert. So needless to say it kinda fouls up the fun of playing.

Why are you attacking 51 soviet divisions with only 24 of your own?
The defending troops get more bonusses than the attackers, so unless you have some serious tech advantages youre dead even before the troops reach the enemy province

Thanks for the feedback. Looks like there's a problem with the events, I'll take a look. IIRC the event removes most or all units but does not actually lead to automatic annexation.

The - 520 modifier applies only during nighttime and this for both sides so there wont be losses for both sides.

What about the combat modifiers for desert or moutain provinces giving -500% (not nighttime modifier!) to regular troops? I had those e.g. with Turkey in the Egyptian desert.
