IMHO all of your points are modelled in CORE!

Test it by yourself, play it a little and then tell us your impression! ;)

Excellent!

That is good to know.

I was reading comments from others (they were playng vanilla v1.06) and I saw some outrageous military setups.

Nice to see you around :) That was quite a along break from HoI, no? Still into modding? Looking forward to hearing your opinion on where we've taken C.O.R.E.

It's been discussed quite a bit if there should be an effect or not, I did a little modelling but I think it's ultimately too much work for not enough benefit to bring this into the game.

Thanks Ghost and Steel. I didn't think so. I agree that the cost-benefit ratio at this scale makes modding of this factor disagreeable.

Now that we have a new CORE and 1.06, I'm going to plunge into the naval game "Designer's Notes" that we discussed a few months ago, to be perhaps included in 1.0 eventually. Nicus and MateDow have been a great help in this regard. Should be fun!

P.S. I wonder if anyone is willing to do an airpower "Designer's Notes" and a land game "Designer's Notes" as well? The idea is to produce something like we used to see in the Notes for games like WiF and A3R - a good, simple introduction to the strategic concepts for each nation. Not an exhaustive inventory, but a starting point. It would be nice to include such a doc in the 1.0 release of CORE. Any takers?

Bismarck/Tirpitz build costs

little thing i noticed :

both ships are in startup buildlist with 9 IC for each, Bismarck with 1673 days.

now my complain : its cheaper and faster to cancel the ships and build them new with 18 IC for 711 days !

for a proof : Bismarck 1673 days * 9 IC = around 15.300 IC in total
Bismarck new 711 days * 18 IC = around 12.800 IC in total

lowering the costs to 6 or 7 for each ship would be better, then the total costs would be nearly equal to new ships and it would give me a reason to build the 2 ships from start on.

i didnt make this maths on the other listed ships, maybe these need a little balancing, too.

Hmm never calculated that. Next time i'll maybe do that. Only it does cost you more valuble IC's in the beginning stage.

I do also like the new Z-plan events for building ships.

Only I could just as easy build them myself then they cost the same. Maybe when this get triggerd we should get a discount on those ships? :)

I think it was an oversight when our naval experts revised the data on naval stuff in the last 0.8 alpha... Propably some build time were lowered, but the construction time of the ship in already in shipyard wasn't changed...

Victory Points in CORE v0.8

I downloaded the new mod, but I have only barely started it, as UK. It appears as if the victory points have been substantially adjusted downward, for all alliances, at the game start. Is this, in fact, the case, or have I imporperly installed the upgrade?

I see references to VP adjustments in the CORE v0.8 release notes, but I am unable to determine if such a significant change should be anticipated.

Another question, has US war entry been adjusted downward, less chance of early attack, due to VP changes?

Thanks for the input, and thanks for another great mod.

VPs have been restored to pre-0.7 values. In v0.7 we experiemented with multiplying ALL VP values by 5, to make them show as stars on the strategic map. This, however, messed up hardcoded warentry for Allies and led to all sorts of badness.

So, for v0.8, we restored old VP values.

VP's were adjusted back to the pre-0.7 setup. We have decided, that's much easier to do this, then write events for USA (and USSR) lowering their WE. :)

It basically means, that USA should be able to join the war around the half of 1941, unless Germany takes much more then it took historically up to date.

I'm having a little problem playing as Japan: resources. Ledger says I'm making hundreds of units of Coal, Steel, etc a day but very little actually makes it back to my stockpile. Playing on Hard/Agressive, Jan 1938, there is only 1 of Rubber and Oil on the WM(Steel and Coal, both 9999). My economy is down to 46 out of 300 IC. But anyway, how do I figure out how much I'm REALLY making a day?

PS: I have all the convoys set up, annexed Manchuria to try and change the situation(no help there, lol).

That's HoI 1.06, all right... :)

You can also change the initial minister of industry (+15% IC) on the "Man of the People" one (10% higher manpower rise) or the others that are available later (I like "Theoretical Sciencist" guy). Still, on V.Hard/Normal I had no problem with making huge stack of resources before the war (coal approx. 50k, Steel 70k, rubber 12k, oil 55k) - but I must confess, that I was very attentive to market changes (making neccessary adjustments).

I had no such problems either. But all this buffering is void within a year or so of war. I'm basically just skeptical how balanced this is in a MP scenario with a human SU. I have yet to do my first "proper" Barbarossa vs AI but I assume it will be cake as usual. The MP scenario is a whole other story though. HoI = entertaining, MP HoI + CORE = holy shit.

If, if, if, if only they had made a whole other abstraction model for airforces and made the naval interface something acceptable. Nevertheless HoI is incredible, and it wouldn't really be without CORE. :)

What's up with Air/Land doctrine landmarks going for 12 IC base and Naval dittos for 4 IC? The research time is 720 days for all, isn't it? Quite rough on minors I dare say.

Another CORE 0.8 download link

Road to war is out of bandwidth till the 1st of the month which is 2 weeks away. Since I do not want to read people crying about not being able to download it here you go

http://gamesreview.dhs.org/download/corev08.exe

You should download about 20k per second and take about 8-10 minutes to download. If it is taking longer and you have a DSL or Cable Modem then someone else is download it with you and you should wait a while.

Do not worry this download will not run out of bandwidth it is unlimited just only a 256k upload is the bad part.

Have fun.

As a minor player I can easily say these new cheaper doctorines are MUCH better. They make take longer but now it's possible to even consider to research. the 20 IC or so countries are now capable of researching doctorines

Infrastrutcture

Hi,
I seldom post, but play a lot and read much of what you write, hope you don’t mind…

I have an opinion: It would be nice to be able to raise infrastructure by more then one for every investment. I thought I read about it somewhere, but can’t find it again and haven’t seen it in the game (0.71) yet. Tried to find a tread about it but failed.

For me it would create one more dimension, not a big issue, but nice to have. Then I could deside to make an investment over several years to build a link in some low infra region. I would like it to be like 10 more infra per investment or something simular.

I noticed that some events creates the historical infrastructure investments of the time, but sometimes I would like to do my own “trans-Siberian railway” (or what it might be calld in English).

Is this already discussed somewhere? Is it possible?
/humbly bowing to all the work you’ve done and time you’ve spent
