Just a note: If my new event set is being included in this new core, please remember to DELETE ALL of the original ones in "062.txt". They are replacements; in some cases major changes have been made and in some cases rather minor ones, but they are meant to replace all the previous ones. All of the events are working perfectly in .63 (they worked oddly or not at all in .62) and I only use two or so extra ID's from my previous version.

- MVSN

P.S. I emailed Generalismo all the minor changes to other existing events (that other players had created) so that my events can work in concert with theirs (balbo, etc.), as well as too added ministers (balbo OPTIONAL if players decide not to kill him and O.K. his Libya plan and it is completed successfully). Any questions, email me :)

Guys I am experiencing a reproducable CTD in my current Germany game of 0.63. The CTD happens within 4 days of the launch of Barbarossa. I am thinking that the CTD is either a evacuate the industry event error or the GPW error. If anyone has any tips on what to look for please let me know.

Steel thanks for the offer of help I will surely do that. However if you could let me know whats wrong and how to fix it that would be great too. Since I saved right before launching Barbarossa so that I could choose all 3 different occupation plans for the USSR.

Probably answered before, but...

I've got two questions.

First, is it possible to change a country's flag without creating a new country?

Second, how do you find the cause of database mismatch errors?

I am somewhat afraid that the answer to #2 might end up: very, very carefully... :p

1. I think you need to replace the .bmp file in teh DB directory, and change the association in the coubtry.csv file as well. JKKelly or Steel can beter answer that though.

2. You should get some information in teh error message, such as line = or some such, as well as in which file the error is happening. It also depends on when you get the mesage, on loading teh scenario, or from an event firing in game.

According to the Havard's manual, there is event command "country", that changes one country in another (thus changing flag. Country have to be definied in the revolt.txt file.

Never tried that, but it works in EU and apparently, Victoria (vide creation of the Germany from Prussia).

First obvious method is checking the file, that is showed in the db mismatch window as a troublemaker...

If there is no clue what file causes problem, usual method is:

1) find all the files that you modified lately,

2) remove part of the changes, check if it helped,

3) if it helped, the bug is in the part left in game,

4) go to point 2, repeat until you find the problematic part.

Hint: 90% of the time it's doubled event id.

To Question #2, mismatch errors in my experience have all been duplicate event numbers. Since the original program was clean, that means that recent edits drive the overlap.

Easy Solution: If you're frequently loading and checking your work then you can go to the recent files, use the "search" function in Windows, then do a text search for "id = xxxxx", Checking the handful of events you've scripted since your last test run. If it comes back with multiple files, then you have a duplicate.

Copy & Paste: If you don't get a multiple file, then that means, for me at any rate, that I've failed to renumber an event that I've copied and used as a template for a new event.

Hard Solution: You've coded your hundred new events and get the data mismatch when you load them up then baaaaaad codewriter. If your hundred events are in one file then you get to do a hundred "id = xxxxx" events. (don't stop at the first one you find since you might have a whole series of events overlapping) If you split your new events topically with no more than 10 or 20 events per file, you can go into the COREEVENT file that tells HOI which event files to integrate, and put a "#" in front of some of the new files. If the program loads, then your error is in the "#" files. If it still hangs, then the mismatch is in the new files that you didn't "#". This procedure will eventually let you isolate the individual event files that have the mismatch and you can use the text search above to narrow down to the individual mismatch(s).

P.S.: Regrettably, these are all first hand experiences for me, so I've learned the hard way to keep my new event files broken into small chunks and frequently check my work.

Not using events. In EU2 there are one or two countries with hardcoded ability to change flags (e.g. England->Great Britain) but no generic flag change event command in EU2 or HoI. You either need to change tags using the 'country' command or manually change the .bmp file.

Here is some info on CTDs....at least for a perspective of what I was having from time to time.

I recently upgraded my PC to 1Gig of DDR RAM from 512 and have had only 1 CTD since. Comparing to the CTDs I was having before, that is a large difference. :) Just thought I would share that.

I might be wrong, but I think he's asking about changing the flag but not the tag of the country.
I doubt it's possible but would be nice to know anyway....

Done it...

Thank you all for the info. I've found the database mismatches, and they were caused by doubled event IDs. As usual, the hard way to find them was the only way.... split into small files, comment them out in core_events.txt one at a time, check each time.

I've also learned today to always give myself more event IDs per file then I originally estimate I will need. I needed to squeeze one more event in my government events file, and that forced me to renumber three other files. What a nightmare that was...

As for country and tag switching, I want to do the following: after Yugoslavia collapses, I would like to create partisan movements using a new country, communist Yugoslavia, that is descended from the old. So, keeping tech the same and changing the country tag is fine. The new country would have new leaders, new ministers, new flag, and everything else different,. It just needs to be descended from the same tech, more or less.

I'll give it a try today, see what I achieve. As usual, thanks for the quick info. As usual, I solved the problem before seeing your answers, and as usual, I remembered after the fact about solving similar problems in the past that I forgot about.... :(

Mmmm. Always learning the hard way, head straight through the wall.

Theoretically you can do this with "country" event command (never tried that), but when Germany destroy new country for the first time, every new "liberation" will get occupants techs. No idea how to solve that - liberated nation always gets liberator's techs.

Returned the savegame to you with edits to resolve the CTD issue, just carry out the same changes in the other save games and you should be ok. If you're uncertain just send the games to me and I'll do it for you.

Nothing to do with events btw, just a vanilla HoI bug.

Which version are you using? There has been significant changes to the counter colours etc in recent versions. Personally I always use counters and so do several others in the C.O.R.E. dev team so I can assure you it's not overlooked.
