I renamed the units and units_small and voila, fixed. Too bad though, because the one thing I noticed was a kickass graphic for battleships. The ships used the icons still, the planes and land units though all used chit counter icons (bleah).

Part of the .61 readme said they "fixed" those filenames (they've been there but with an extra space). Is CORE designed to convert you to chit counters by default? Strange thing to do...

Love the battleship icon but the counters were driving me crazy so I renamed too. :( I know it shouldn't matter but I am just more comfortable with the graphical representions vs the counters.

Well, it's really a pretty individual thing, and we should all game as we like. I'm glad that the game is flexible enough that a wide variety of preferences can be accommodated.

Just to throw in a dissenting view, I like the counter graphics as opposed to the "toy soldier" pictures. But I agree that it's individual taste, and I wasn't unhappy with the way it was before either.

While I'm on the subject though, would it be possible to increase the size of the icons for adding brigades? I have a hard time centering the cursor on the tiny little symbols to add brigades. Not a big thing, but it would nice if it was a bigger thing ;)

I personally am also a rock-ribbed counters aficionado. That probably reflects my age as much as anything, growing up in the heyday of board wargaming. However, hobby growth is for me the overriding key: with hobby growth we get more and better games, because there's a market. The generation of gamers young enough to be my kids were raised in a different world, one not limited by the counter mix and used to more images and colour in games. Wargames that are to succeed have to respect a pretty wide variety of tastes. Thus, like you, while sprites feel like Donkey Dong (or whatever it's called that my wife likes, where you play with a bunch of little apes) to me, I don't begrudge the sprites and cute pictures. More gamers--good. Less gamers--bad.

On the brigades, I had to revise my first comment. From the FAQ:

Q. I don't like the tiny icons for brigades. How do I remove them?
A. Delete or rename the file ..\Hearts of Iron\mod-CORE\gfx\interface\auxiliary.bmp

I trust this still applies to 0.61. Enjoy!

Glad you could at least work around the issue.

Until this version, AFAIK CORE didn't try to incline the player toward one display or another. I don't think that's the intent; rather, I think the intent is to provide new options that the player can always change. The how-to of this, of course, should be added to the CORE FAQ and probably will in due time.

However, I do tend to think that playing with counters in CORE is going to keep getting prettier. Lately I've seem some superb and promising stuff along those lines.

I found two minor issues with CORE 0.6 and 0.61:

Japan's manpower is cut by 800 respective 1200 when choosing "Bring it on" or "Give me a challenge" in "Choose level of difficulty" (id 1500009). Japan has only 400 manpower due to later mobilization events. Most other nations (UK, Germany, France, USSR) still have manpower left after those events, Italy and the US are at 0 too.

The other aspect is with the armor tech tree. Basic suspension, gear and engine don't need the early variant, improved don't need the basic one. I don't know if that's wanted as designed...

Otherwise it's a great mod which enriches the game tremendously. :)

Since this option is available, the triggers of some events should be re-examined as follows (I comment and announces only what I noticed in my party) :

I tend to agree with most of these and it has been discussed before, the main issue that stopped us from changing it is from a game balance point of view. If Germany is disallowed from having these events when at war, then an early declaration of war by the USSR will unbalance the game greatly. This is an issue in multiplayer games but if the community feels strongly that Germany must be at peace to have these events then it can certainly be changed.

Thanks for the feedback and your English is fine

The manpower problem is currently undergoing heavy modding and testing, so look for some changes in upcoming versions.

I agree with the point about suspension etc, Copper Nicus can perhaps comment if there's a reason why earlier levels are not pre-reqs and if not we can change it in the next patch.

The Core_us36_39.ai research priority for nukes is nuclear = 0.1 in v0.61. This is too low and does not get the US to the proper 1939 technology. I suggest 0.8 - 1.0.

My Einstein Letter event fixes this, by proving 8300 & 8400, but at some time in the future I'd like to redo this event's triggers and effects.

Damn it, I was pretty sure we already corrected that... Thanks for info! :D

Now, something more serious - I've noticed serious difference in execution of independence (and civil_war) commands in 1.05c (compared to the 1.05b and older patches).

Up to 1.05c, independence was granted by the nation that owned province. Now, it's the nation that controls territory the only possible "liberator".

What it means for the mod? All the events that got independence (civil_war) command, should:

1) have triggers checking, if nation that is about to liberate someone got control over certain territory,

2) event should be executed by the controller, not owner of the territory.

There is another problem connected with that - if one nation "liberate" other nation, all their units on the liberated territory switch sides to the newly created country.

In some situations it's not that serious problem, but in case of New Order East events is quite serious - events can be changed (from SOV to GER) basing on the controller, not the owner of the province, but there is serious chance, that lots of GER units become Balt, Ukrainian and Russian in the process.

We will try to solve that in the next update...

Graphic resolutions

1) Graphics files that exist in the mod-CORE directory are used over the HoI version in the default GFX directory. If you prefer the HoI version of a graphic, delete or rename the mod-CORE/GFX file so that the program will use the default graphic.

2) It's always possible to do some slice-and-dice with a graphics program to piece together some of your favorite unit graphics for something like the unit bar. Just takes a little initiative and you can have your own unique unit bar.

3) The brigades icons can be as big as the default auxiliary.bmp file will allow them to be. I use the default HoI file for those images myself, so I am not sure if the CORE images are much smaller. Again, some initiative in modding the auxiliary.bmp file with bigger symbols would work.

The development of the guided missile battleship is necessary for the development of the nuclear version (or it should). This would fulfill the requirement for development of the missile for the nuclear version as well.

i also can't developed the Helicopter carriers as the US

Have you developed the helicopters from the light aircraft tree, and the amphibius craft tech? Those are both required for the helicopter carrier in addition to some of the ASW techs from the naval tree. MDow
