Didn't notice a mention of this...

Hi guys

I just DLed CORE and I love it! It's a fantastic mod to HoI. I'm thoroughly enjoying it.

However, I found a bug that I haven't heard mentioned yet, on this topic or any other. I've been playing Britian and there is a problem specifically regarding Iraq and Egypt, so far. That is when I've already expended DI bringing them into the Allied forces, I'll get a message somewhat later on (I think it was like 2 months with Egypt, 6 months with Iraq) where I'd get an event about a British-Arab defense agreement. It would only give me the option to cancel the agreements, penalizing me with 15 dissent for each country. You can imagine my horror when, after I've already brought them into the Allies, I get an event that only gives me the option to tell these countries that they're on their own and give myself a 30% dissent rating!

Is this just an incomplete event or am I supposed to have no choice in the matter?

I just ran a quick test game and fired the Egypt event via the console. It offered me two options, declare war on Italy or refuse obligations. In your game is Italy at war with Egypt/Iraq? Are you at war with Italy?

Yes, Italy entered the war on Germany's side after I had already made Egypt my ally and after France had already declared war on Germany, dragging me in. I never got the "Honor Agreement" option.

It sounds like this option was designed in case Italy invaded Egypt on their own (like they do vs. Ethiopia and Albania), but doesn't work like it's supposed to when Egypt is already allied with Britain.

Burris' listing shoud be good for the Arab names, but the Turkish presence in the militaries of Iraq, Syria and Egypt was quite heavy up to the 1950s so having some Turkish-sounding names in EGY SYR LEB or IRQ is not historically inaccurate either.

I have sent Generalissimo a rewrite of these Anglo-Egyptian and Anglo-Iraqi events that should end this, as it will require the attacker to NOT be either in the Comintern or Axis AND that war had not broken out between ENG and GER to fire so, knock on wood, that should fix the problems. Have also sent Generalissimo new British response events should Egypt or Iraq request aid in case of attack so that ENG will declare war on the neutral agressor should they attack either EGY or IRQ. Hopefully that will end the problem and once WWII does break out if EGY or IRQ join the allies they will stay there.

CORE 0.5 Germany Normal/Agg/Hard-CORE

Observations;

- Steel and Rubber are really in 0 supply, I can't get them not even with 3-1 trades, oil is in readily supply. This is not really a problem for 1936-9, because I just seem to manage with the steel trades, china rubber and upgrading provinces, but as soon as war brakes out, I loose 100 IC. This seems all fine to me and reflects the German need for resources. If this stays like this (1.05 or 0.5 WM changes?? and the steel lowering in German nat. provinces)), I think the trade between Norway and Germany for steel should increase. I don't see the 1.05 steel convoy between Sweden and Germany?

- SCW lasted only 6 months with a solid victory for NatSpain, no interference with troops at all.

- 1.05 Germany OOB gives some 6 transports, did you guys decided that was too much? (might help the AI)

- Flow of history for the rest historical. I toned down the manpower from 300 to 150 in the Austrian event, you already get so many units.

- I think the 0 change in dissent in occupation of the Rhineland can be -1

- I think there are too many events that increase Germany's influence, I don't know really what this does but I think it increases it's chances to effectively negotiate with DI. An event that really tones down Germany's influence after it betrays the Munich agreement should be included, so option A & B should have decreased influence for Germany.

- In the Tiso event, I toned down the loss of resources because steel and rubber are very scarce

_ Germany dishonours the Munich treaty, why does the warentry for USA go -10?

- Japan is fighting ChiCom and NatChina, the whole eastern Chineese coast is now occupied (may 1940), but ChiCom still has it's 2 provinces and it looks very historical there, although I am afraid that the Japanese will push deeper and deeper into the territory.

- Poland was very easy this time, it had a lot of divisions but it pulled most of them to the province north-west of Warschau, probably because I didn't attack that from Eastern-Prussia, and left Warschau completely undefended, so all I had to do was occupy Lvov and annex them. Timefame was historical and Poland shouldn't really be a problem if you have historical forces.

- Denmark and Norway, I decided to go in in March, because steel was now actually at 0 and my industry was suffering. DOW Denmark and Norway and after a battle with the RN I steam for Narvik, Stavanger and Bergen. In Narvik I used to win with Dietl's mountaincorps of 2 mountain divisions, one with engineers and one with artillery, but they get blasted by 2 Norwegian divisions and it wasn't cold or snowing. I lost 1 division before pulling out. My % of effectiveness was ONE all the time, no idea what's wrong here.
Stavanger was easily done because I used bombers but then I see 9 divisions on the move from Oslo!!
So, I use my boarded paratroopers, they boarded before I declared war and you really have to plan their use which is great, as soon as Oslo was empty I landed in it and took 99999 steel:D
I have a firm foothold in southern Norway with Bergen mine as well, it will take months but I'll annex them summer 1940.

- Italy decided it doesn't want Albania

- The maginot fortress of Strassbourg has disappeared after dogfighting between France and Germany

- I influenced Egypt so much that it is not in the Allies yet, which might lead to a DOW from the Italians and the activation of the alliance treaty.


Now I have assembled the grey masses for a push into the west, Belgium has joined the Allies in March 1940. I was wondering, if I encircle the maginot, so the 3 provinces, can they start deply. from there and are they still in supply?

Historically there never was such a thing as Norwegian steel exports to Germany and the Swedish trade is covered via events and the world market. The quantities are open for discussion of course, I've already increased the amount of rubber and steel on the world market but also the number of buyers. I made a small change to the steel trade but perhaps the numbers should be tweaked upwards.

It's a balancing act, but basically Germany *should* have a shortage and be forced to expand if they want to keep their IC at 100%. :)

Generally speaking no OOB changes were carried over from 1.05 to C.O.R.E. and as specifically concerns Germany they get transports as part of Fall Weserubung rather than have them sitting in port (or worse, used to invade some minor) for four years.

There's about 60 influence to be gained via normal event progression, but there's some potential reductions as well. IIRC Germany get's 36 DI per year, so by end of 1939 they would have
144 DI plus another 60 DI from events (ie just under 30% of DI comes from events). IMHO this represents the benefits of political brinkmanship quite well and is balanced by for example the increases in Allied WE (especially for the USA as this directly affects their CG demand).

I think I'd be more inclined to look at DI-increasing events for SOV, FRA, USA and ENG than cut back on the German events :) Hopefully v0.6 will have the full Lend-Lease solution which will provide a nice balance (Axis DI-boosts all come early, Allies come to power slowly but sustain it to end game).

Sounds like it's working well ;) I'll have a look at AI resource flows again to make sure they aren't suffering too badly.

Can I use 0.51 for my current 0.5 game without problems?

You'll get very little benefit as AI files, OOBs, ministers etc are saved in the save game itself and not read from the scenario files that we've updated. I don't think it will cause any problems although I'm not sure about the Hard-C.O.R.E. events changes, you might get events triggering on loading the game.

You are probably better off finishing this game and then patching :)

Yes, it's logged as a bug and I've spent a minute or two tweaking it... ;) If NatChi is too strong then Japan never becomes a power in the Pacific, if NatChi is too weak then Japan rolls into India and Irkutsk... in between is a happy medium where Japan takes 60% of China and then goes for the DEI, PHI, Pacific etc. Ideas are welcome, there's some stuff recently posted in the Far East thread.

It also seems the Japanese annexation of Manchuria was overlooked, it happened in the 30's dont remember when.

Are you referring to the abolition of extra-territoriality in December 1937? Do you have good sources on it, if so post in the Far East thread please.
