Also adding in an Event for the French Maginot Line Propaganda might be note worthy.

Hmm, there is a lot of sources that document the actual design of the Maginot Line listing the ouvrages, armaments etc. It's perhaps better to bring this discussion to the Western Europe thread but consider that the Maginot Line is probably the baseline for all other forts in the game, if we are going to challenge Paradox design here we put into question every other fort in the game.

Observation on France (CORE Version 0.2).

From what I remember from the History Channels episode of France's Maginot Line, The areas where Fortifications are (i.e. Lille, Saden and Chaumont) didn't really have fortifications. In fact the Maginot line wasn't really that great of a defensive fortification that everyone thought it was. There was a LOT of propaganda in making everyone think that the Maginot line was impassable. This was largely to deter the Germans in thinking so. France had also thought that their Allances with Belgium and Luxemburg would mean that they would not have to extend the Maginot Line to the coast, which they really didnt have the financing to do either.

The Propaganda with the Maginot Line worked so well that not only the Germans bought into it but so did the French public....worked too well in fact, it lead to a further push of scaling down the French Armed Forces and (as we all know) the Germans went around the Maginot Line when the time came.

In summary, I think the Maginot Line Fortifications should be perhaps a 7 rather than a 10 and Lille, Saden and Chaumont should be perhaps 1 or 0. This would be more realistic.
Also adding in an Event for the French Maginot Line Propaganda might be note worthy.

Thoughts??

This history channel is the poorest source for information, as its biased towards the US and the criticise everything else.

It should stay how it is.

The Geremans had to eventually go back and attack the wall, and EVEN FROM BEHIND, they had quite a hard time.

And actually.. the French army was never scaled down.. it was the only army for that for the most part didn't demobilise after WWI.

Quick question -

I don't like the "bunker" icon on C.O.R.E. for fortresses (I play with counters, not sprites, and while the bunkers look nice next to sprites, they look silly and cartoony next to counters.) How do I change it back to the old "spiky circle"?

if you play HoI, not CORE, for example the 1936 scenario, do you see the same image?

if that's right (i think it is :( ) your file has been overwrited, so you need the old "fortification.bmp" that it is in:
"Hearts of Iron\gfx\map"

sorry, i hope in the next version moddir works right (Paradox work) and we can put all the files separately and we do not need to overwrite the original files. :)

Yes, known issue with the Bolted events included - it relates to Yugoslavia and there's a fix in test right now.

OT, but somehow related to betatesting and modding: is there a way to install two copies of HoI on one machine? I tried it, but there is no separate install.exe and the only executable file first checks whether the game already has been installed and then allow me only to uninstall or repair...
Cheers

Just copy the complete folder to another location, create a shortcut, that is all!
You could also delete the registry key generated by the first installer, but ...

Yugoslav events

I spent some time with the Yugoslav events last night after I noticed them not firing correctly in my Russian game. I ended up really tearing my hair out over them too - talk about frustrating.

I ended up trying to make a much shorter chain of events -

i) If Yugoslavia is in Axis, then 70% chance of a coup, making them leave the Axis and join the Allies.

No matter what I did as regards sequencing of events, I couldn't get the thing to turn out right. The best I managed was to get Yugoslavia out of the Axis and into the Allies - but they were still "In a war with Germany, Slovakia... against the United Kingdom..." and "In a war with Germany, Slovakia... against the Soviet Union..."

Whenever I tried using the "peace" command, it resulted in ending hte entire war - even when I triggered it a few days after triggering the initial "leave the Axis and join the Allies" event.

I wonder is it possible to use the "peace" command to make a separate peace i.e. to just end the war between Yugoslavia and the Soviet Union. As things stand the game engine interprets the peace command to involve the entire alliance - making peace between everybody.

Finally, I hit upon the "Vichy" solution and tried making Yugoslavia a puppet of the UK. That worked - Yugoslavia leaves the Axis, joins the Allies, declares war on the Germans etc.

It's not in any way the ideal solution though it's the best I could come up with for now.

It would be fine if, when installing CORE, the installer let you choose to install the alternative gfx or not. P.e. i wouldn´t install the new brigade icons, but i would install the new fort. Czolgosz doesn´t like the fort sprite, and this way he could choose not to install it.

Btw, i don´t have any idea about how to make a instalation program, i don´t know if this is easy to implement or not.

Better to keep all the new graphics except leader pics in a separate install as they are very much down to personal taste (and add to file size)

FWIW I like the new fort :D

Got it, fixed it (I think ;)) - basically the problem appears to be related to Italy redeploying a unit, it certainly is not related to an event as it happens with all events removed. I've made some changes to the AI in the savegame and was able to play on 5 out of 5 games. I've sent the save file back to you, try it out and let me know if it crashes again.
