New avatar help

I was wondering if anyone could assist me with an avatar.

I have a little picture that I would like to place in my avatar which is in my signature.

I have absolutely no idea how to turn it into an avatar or indeed how long it takes.

Is this is a far fetched request or would anyone care to have a look for me?
