In 2009, Raytheon unveiled an upgrade to the block IV Tomahawk that would enable it to attack surface ships. I think this would be easy to model in the game. Simply add an anti-ship capability to the Tomahawk.

That's cool.... wait, Raytheon? That company is infamous for yanking up the prices on everything they make. Almost as bad as Lockheed Martin. I expect that missile will cost around 1mil USD each or something like that.

Yay! :) Thats what time compression is for! It can't be any worse that Fleet Command. Eh, I'll be too busy fighting off those Russian killer missiles and attacking subs. :) I learned from Fleet Command that when it comes to Tomahawks, patience is a virtue. Most of the time. With a 1000 pound warhead, it would probably be worth the wait though. :)
Another article about the new anti-ship capability.

Unlike the TASM, the anti-ship upgrade to the Block IV gives it an anti-ship capability whereas the TASM was a dedicated anti-ship missile. Also, it is much more advanced.

In reality TacTom comes with regular optical imaging seaker and no serious anti ship capability. You can look at official navy page and see that TacTom (Block 4) in their inventory is stated to have only land attack capability.

Well, this thread is all about a proposed upgrade that would give the TacTom an anti-ship capability.

The is no real point in this though, as you have slow missile with low capability and you cannot realistically use it on max range - giving it no real advantage over harpoon.

The slow part I understand. The BGM-109 is not the ideal Anti Ship platform, but the sheer range of the weapon and the fact is has it's own sensors make it valuable in my mind. You can launch the weapon from a very long distance and the enemy will not be able to detect active emissions until the weapon is within fairly close range. Also, Ticonderoga CGs and Arleigh Burke class DDGs can carry a TON of these weapons. The sheer numbers will make sure at least a few get through, and with the power of today's weapons that's all you need to force and enemy SAG to retreat.

As far as i can see, the Tomahawk is not considered 'sea-skimming' (flying barely above the waves) and have a speed comparable to commercial aircraft. Although I don't know about maneuverability, I venture a guess and say, these missiles will be easy prey for the advanced SAMs and CIWS of modern ships, especially those of a whole task force.

You see you would need some sort of an accurate sensor to track the target for hours of the missile flight. It cannot be satellite, and it is hard to use a submarine for this. If you use airborne platform - it would need to retain the LOS with the target and 40N6 makes that quite hard, not to mention the presense of CAP.

Taking more TacTom rounds would decrease the amount of ASROC SM6 and SM3 you can carry.

Hence in reality, while TacTom is a very decent land attack weapon it has no real advantage over harpoon in anti ship sense, which was one of the reasons for their conversion from TASM into TLAM.
