I'm confused by the Diplomatic map mode.

If I click on a province in Italy, provinces from Yugoslavia light up in dark green yet they say the are controlled by Yugo and a province of Yugo. If they are controlled by and owned by Yugo why then do they light up when I click on an Italian province?

Light green provinces are supposedly controlled by an ally yet the text always says they are controlled by the same country lit up in green implying that country is allied with itself. What am I missing?

Thanks in advance.

Dark green provinces in Yugo, are cores ( national provinces ) for Italy but controlled by Yugoslavia. I didn't understand the other question.

Thanks for your first answer.

As for the second question, I just suck at asking intelligent questions so I'll try again.

The book says light green provinces belong to one of that nations allies. If I click on Pilsen in Czech, 4 provinces light up in light green. They say the are controlled by czech and one of it's provinces. Who is the ally these provinces belong too?

National claims have nothing to do with allies. Enemies can have claims on national provinces. Also note that provinces can become national via events in the game: Germany starts with no claims on Austria or Czech or Poland but gets them via events, so you question about Pilsen depends upon what time it is and how the events fired.

To get a clean start, use the diplomatic map mode and move towards the French German border. Click on Germany and you will see that the three French provinces are claimed by Germany.

Look at that pattern and then reproduce it for Italy by clicking on Italy which has claims on the entire Adriatic coast up to the Albanian border. Italy has national claims on Yugo provinces as does Hungary for at least one Yugo (Novi Sad?) province.

The time is 0:00 Jan 1, 1936.

Your reply helped to clear things up some but it's still a little fuzzy.

When I click on Germany, provinces on the edge of the country are not colored green. What does this mean?

What does a light green color mean?

What does a med green color mean?

As I understand it from the reply above, a dark green color means that province is a core province of that nation now controlled by another nation. Is that right?

If I understand you correctly.. this might be the correct answer:

Med green is your country and light green is your allies..

I think I'm just going to have to let this one go for a while. I have a rudementary understanding but not all is clear.

Med green is your country and light green is your allies..

I don't think this is correct. I'm playing Germany. It's 0:00 jan 1, 1936, the very begining of the game. All the provinces in Germany are light green.

Other countrys I click on are med green with a few provinces that are either dark green (provinces they have claims on but are controlled by some one else) and light green provinces that are... I don't know what.

The correct answer would be that the diplomatic map mode shows the relations for the country you are clicking on. The light green provinces are those of the nations allies, the dark green are the nation’s core claims and the medium green are the current cores of that nation.

Each national province has a small dark red dot. You already own those in lighter green. Those in darker green are one with claims.

Germany in 1936 has claims on France and Luxembourg for four provinces on those borders. If you read the diplomatic information for Germany, it tells you that Germany has claims on those two countries. The rest of the national provinces that Germany gets are done by the historic diplomatic events leading up to war over Danzig.

Similarly in diplomatic map mode click on Italy. You will see that Italy has claims on 5 Adriatic Sea provinces that are owned by Yugoslavia. Same colors, same red dots.

Click on Hungary. Has 6 provinces and claims 9 more in three countries.

Click on Bulgaria. Has 6 provinces and claims 5 more in three countries.

I am USSR. Light Green is my ally, Mongolia. Medium Green is my own country. Dark Green is my claim on Japan.
